Nineteen Sri Lankan freedom fighters including 'Kappetipola Disawe' who fought against Englishmen during British colonial period to gain independence and considered as Traitors by English rulers 200 years ago are due to be recognized as National Heroes according to Minister of Justice and Buddha Sasana Wijedasa Rajapakshe.
A recommendation has already been made to President Maithripala Sirisena regarding changing the Gazette Notification issued in 1818 which declared Nineteen persons including Kappettipola Disawe as traitors Minister has stated.
Minister's announcement came after meeting with hard line Sinhalese nationalists who had stressed the need to abolishing colonial era decisions taken against freedom fighters who fought for independence by label them as traitors.
