THe Court Case Against MP Geetha Kumarasinghe To Be Taken Into Consideration In January 2017

The Appeals Court has today (24) decided to taken into consideration the petition  filed by a group of Residents in Galle District requesting the Court to issue an order to abolish the Parliamentary Seat of Actress turned politician MP Geetha Kumarasinghe on 17th and 24th of January 2017.

The petition has requested court to issue an order to abolish MP Geetha Kumarasinghe 's Parliamentary Seat as she holds a dual citizenship in Switzerland .

According to the newly passed  19th amendment of the Sri Lankan Constitution  a local citizen who holds a dual citizenship in another country cannot contest in a local election.
