For the first time in Sri Lanka Maharagama "Apeksha" Hospital is due to perform an expensive Bone Marrow Transplant Surgeries free of charge for local patients with effect from this December according to the Ministry Of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine.These surgeries will be performed mainly by four Oncologists attached to Apeksha Hospital who had recently undergone a special training regarding the Bone Marrow Transplant Surgeries at St.Vincent's University Hospital ,Australia as per the instructions of Consultant Surgeon Dr.M.A David who is attached to the St.Vincent's Hospital Ministry has stated.
There are over 100 patients in Maharagama "Apeksha" Hospital awaiting Bone Marrow Transplant Surgeries which performs in foreign countries at the cost of around Rs.30 to 40 million according to the reports.Sri Lankan patients are mostly flying to the countries like India and Singapore for this surgery.
