Twenty four local drug manufacturing Corporations along with the officials of State Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Corporation (SPMC) had met the officials of the Ministry Of Health,Nutrition And Indigenous Medicine recently and discussed the ways that produce all the essential western drugs locally by the year 2020 it has been reported.At present around three thousand Drug varieties are being imported to Sri Lanka annually at a cost of Rs.45 billion according to the Health Ministry.
Already three local Drug Manufacturers has started manufacturing western drugs locally and the authorities are planning to establish new Drug Manufacturing Plants in the island in view of manufacturing all the essential Drugs locally by the year 2020 the Health Ministry has stated.
