The Supreme Court has today(22) decided to go ahead with the petition filed by National Freedom Front leader MP Wimal Weerawansha and tow others by seeking an order to revise the government's decision to increase value added tax(VAT).The petition is seeking an interim order from the court to prevent the government from order public to pay VAT and it also argued that the Parliament approval is must before increasing the VAT .
The government has increased the VAT by 4% from 11% to 15% with effect from 02nd of May 2016.
