The Propaganda Secretary of the leftist Jantha Wimukthi Peramuna(JVP) MP Vijitha Herath who was arrested by the Police Monday(30) night after his vehicle was crashed into a telephone pole in Rajagiriya(In Colombo)has been today(01) acquitted from the charges of driving under liquor influence by Colombo Traffic Court Magistrate.However MP Herath was ordered to pay Rs.1500 fee for two other charges on failing to prevent an accident and damaging public property.
The Welikada Police have detained the MP Monday night soon after the accident but later released on police bail.
MP Herath has told the media earlier he was not under the liqour influence at the time of the accident and he lost the control of his vehicle while trying to save the life of a pedestrian who crossed the road unexpectedly.
