The Value Added Tax(VAT) on certain items and services has been increased from 11% to 15% with effect from today(02) according to Inland Revenue Department.The Finance Ministry has issued a list of exempted items from VAT and according to it essential items like rice,powdered milk,wheat ,pharmaceutical products/drugs and services like electricity ,health and education are exempted from VAT.
