The National Campaign On Protecting Consumers Rights has requested the Government not to implement Value Added Tax(VAT) on Health,Telecommunications and Wholesale and Retail Trade sectors for the benefit of consumers.
As government has decided to increase the Value Added Tax from 11% to 15% of most of the goods and services including Health,Telecommunications and Wholesale and Retail Trade with effect from 02nd of May the local consumers may have face severe difficulties due to the rising prices of goods and services the president of the National Campaign On Protecting Consumers Rights Ranjith Vithanage has stated .
Due to this situation the National Campaign has requested the Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe through a letter to free the above mentioned sectors from Value Added Tax .
