The Department Of Police has begun massive search operations throughout the country especially in Colombo this morning to eradicate Underworld Gangs which are rapidly spreading violence in the country since past few weeks.These Massive Search Operation will be carried out under the direct supervision of Senior Deputy Inspector General Of Police (DIG) in Western Province Pujitha Wijesundare.
Under these operation 102 Mobile Road Blocks have been established within Colombo Police Division to search Vehicles and Individuals and these activities will be limited to three hours daily.
At the end of each operation a report should be submitted to Deputy Inspector General Of Police(DIG) Wijesundara .
In addition 10 Police Mobile Units will be established in 10 Police Divisions in Colombo and a team each comprising 8 Police Officers will be placed for these units .An Assistant Superintendents Of Police(ASP) will be supervising these mobile unites,These Units can call Police Special Task Force and seek assistance if the need arises.
These Massive Search Operations to eradicate Underworld Gangs have been launched after series of shooting incidents occurred in the island especially in Western Province During last few weeks which killed several people and injured dozens .
The Department Of Police believe the Underworld Gangs which were silent for sometime have become active.
