The General Secretary Of the allied partner of current government the United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA), Professor Vishwa Warnapala has passed away this morning while receiving treatment at a Private Hospital in Colombo.The 79 years old General Secretary of UPFA was an active member of the main coalition party of UPFA ,the Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP) since his university days.He was appointed as a member of the SLFP Central Committee by former Prime Minister Mrs.Sirimawo Bandaranaike in late 80's.
Professor Warnapala was the Minister of Higher Education of previous government during 2007-2010 period.
President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed late Professor Warnapala as the General Secretary of UPFA on 14 th of August 2015 after former General Secretary of UPFA Susil Premjayantha has resigned from his post.
