The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has today(04) recommended the President Maithripala Sirisene to abolish the Death Penalty in Sri Lanka.The Human Rights Commission has recommended this in view of Human Rights Principles and Values the Commission has said.
In a letter to the President Human Rights Commission has stated that there's a growing global recognition that Death Penalty violates Human Rights including the Right To Life and freedom from inhuman and cruel punishment and it has proved as ineffective punishment as a deterrent to crime.
However due to the growing number of child rape cases reported in the country President Maithripala Sirisene has stated last year the Death Penalty should be imposed in the country to reduce such incidents.
