The Constitutional Council with the approval of President Maithrpala Sirsena has appointed Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya as new Chairman Of Election Commission it has been reported.Ranjeevan Hoole and Nalin Abeysekera have been appointed as members of the Election Commission which was established as an independent Commission under the 19th Amendment.
