There's an Island Wide severe shortage of the newly introduced Dual Purpose Vaccines given to Children Over five years of age to protect from the diseases Diptheria and Tetanus according to the Ministry Of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine.Even the Medical Supplies Division do not have sufficient stocks of the Dual Purpose Vaccines to distribute amongst Government Hospitals the Ministry has said.
A stock of Dual Purpose Vaccines is due to arrive Medical Supplies Division on this Thursday and it will help to ease the situation Ministry Sources have said.
The Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne has advised the Epidemiology Unit to conduct Special Clinics Island wide on this Friday to administer Dual Purpose Vaccines for the children over five years old who are not able to received the vaccine due to the shortage.
