The inaugural session of the 08th parliament is scheduled to be convened tomorrow(01) at 9 a.m. with participation of 225 MP'S including 196 newly elected MP'S and 29 selected National List MP'S .
The first duty of the new parliament is to appoint a new speaker and a secret ballot is due to be held in this regard according to political sources. The governing United National Party(UNP) has nominated the name of it's deputy leader MP Karu Jayasuriya as party's candidate for the speaker's post and a nominee from Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP) is scheduled to be elected as Deputy Speaker the sources have said.
After the electing of new speaker the newly elected MP'S are due to be sworn in before him.The rest of the Parliament's schedule for tomorrow will be included the electing of Deputy Speaker and deputy chairman of selection committee.
After the conclusion of the schedule the speaker is due to postpone the Parliamentary Session until evening and at 3 p.m President Maithripala Sirisene is due to make a special statement to the Parliament.
