The government has planned to buy 120,000 tonnes of Paddy directly from local farmers during the upcoming "Yala"(Secondary) Harvest Season (March to September).The Paddy Marketing Board will buy this paddy from farmers government has announced,The Cabinet has already approved a proposal to buy "Nadu" Rice Variety for Rs.45 per kilo gramme and "Keeri Samba" Rice Variety for Rs.50 per Kilo Gramme from farmers.
The Paddy is expected to reach market by early August this year it has been reported.Meanwhile the government has allocated Rs.6 billion to buy paddy directly from farmers during this "Yala" Harvest government sources said.
