Suger,Dhal And Canned Fish Prices Are Reduced


The Prices of Suger,Dhal and Canned Fish has been reduced with effect from Midnight tonight Consumer Affairs Minister Bandula Gunawardana said today.He announced this Price Reduction at a Press Briefing held in Colombo today.

Southern Provincial Councilor Nishantha Muthuhettigama Was Arrested On Court Warrant

Controversial Southern Provincial Councilor Nishantha Muthuhettigama of the Governing United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) was arrested by the Police short while ago at Galle on a Arrest Warrant issued by the Magistrate Court in Galle.A Special Police Team was sent to arrest Councilor Muthihettigama according to the Senior DIG of Galle.

He was arrested due to failure to  attend the Court Case filed against him by fellow Provincial Councilor and Actress Anarkali Akarsha on the charges of issuing Death Threats against her and destroying her Elections Office .Muthuhettigama also tried to make a chaos at the first newly elected Southern Provincial Council Sessions held yesterday by forcibly occupying the Council Chairman's Seat.Following the Incident the Session was suspended till 19th of November.

Sixty One Arrested Unemployed Graduates Released On Bail

The 61 Unemployed Graduates who were arrested yesterday due to entering into High Security Zone in Colombo Fort without accepting Police warning were released on Bail today by the Fort Magistrate.All the arrested Graduates belongs to the Sri Lankan Unemployed Graduates Union.

These Graduates were clashed with the Police when attempting enter in to the High Security Zone in Colombo fort yesterday in the view to march towards the Presidential Palace to handover a Petition to the President Mahinda Rajapaksha.

Australian Government Rejected The Sri Lankan Offer Of Sending Unskilled Labour

Australian Immigaration Minister Chris Evens today rejected a Proposal made by the Sri Lankan Immigration Chief P.B Abeykoon to allow   local Unskilled Workers to enter Australia as a move to  stop Ilegal Boat Immigrants by entering in to Aussie Waters.

First Southern Provincial Council Session Suspended Till 19th


The First Ever Session of the newly elected Southern Provincial Council meeting held today at Galle  was suspended till  19th of November after the Controversial Provincial Councillor of the Governing Party Nishantha Muthuhettigama forcibly tried to occupying the seat of Provincial Council Chairman.

General Sarath Fonseka Arrived Sri Lanka Without Giving Statement To US Officials

The Chief Of the Defense Staff General Sarath Fonseka was arrived Sri Lanka this Morning from the United States of America by the Courtesy of Sri Lankan Government with immediate effect without giving any Voluntary Statement to the US Officials against the Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksha Government Information Department has announced today. 

General Fonseka who is also a Green Card Holder in USA is in Personal Tour last weak when the US Officials requested him to provide eveidance against the Sri Lanakn Defense Secretary on  alleged Human Rights Violations.However without supporting it General Fonseka informed  the attempt of the US Officials to the Sri Lankan Mission in Washington and to Sri Lankan Government.SL Government immediatly condemned The act of the US Officials and bring back General Fonseka to the Country.

Meanwhile responding the return of General Fonseka Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama said that Persident Mahinda Rajapaksha Safeguard the Dignity and Office of the General.

The Vote Of Account Passed With Majority Of 47 Votes

The Vote of Account presented to the Parliament by the Government as alternative to the Annual Budget passed this evening with Majority of 47 Votes .125 Members Voting for the Account and 78 Voting against and another 2 Government MP's were absent during the Voting.

The Vote Of Account was presented to the Parliament instead of the Budget is due to the duration of Current Parliament  scheduled to be ended in next April.

National Democratic Front Secretary Nandana Gunathilaka Resigned From His Posts

The General Secreatary and Parliamentarian of the New Democratic Front(NDF) Nandana Gunathilaka today resigned from the Secreatry Post of the Party and from the Political Bureau with immediate effect.The decision behind this sudden move is not announced.

The NDF is formed from a Group who were resigned from the leftist Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna(JVP).

Three Indian Pharmaceutical Companies who Provided Contaminated Injection Vials Got Blacklisted For Two Years

National Drug Authority recommended the Ministry of Health to Blacklisted Three Indian Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Companies for two years who are responsible for supplying of Glass Piece Contained Injection Vials to the Sri Lankan Government Hospitals.Drug Authority recommends this from an Inquiry Report on Indian Pharmaceutical Companies handover to the Health Ministry Secretary Dr.Athula Kahanda Liyanage yesterday.

The three Companies due to Blacklisted  for Two years are 'Kilitch  India Drugs Private Limited who supplied the Glass Piece contained "Ceferoxine" Injection Vial,"Umedica Laboratories" who supplied the same kind of "Hydrocortisone" Vial,and Balco Pharma supplied the Glass Piece contained "Pethidine"

Police Fired Tear Gas And Water To Disperse The March Of Unemployed Graduate

Police fired tear Gas and Water to disperse protest March of around 2000 Unemployed Graduates near Hotel Hilton in Colombo this morning after the Graduates tried to enter the High Security Zone and  walking towards President's House to handover a petition.Due to the Police Blocked the Road There was a clash between the Police and the Protesters and  the angry protesting Graduates tried to remove Police Barricades which block the Road .Five Female Graduates were injured during  the Clashes and received Hospital Treatment .

Protesters who are unemployed since three years were demanding Government to employ all the Unemployed Graduates Immediately.They also protest over not allocating  Money from the Vote of Account presented to the Parliament for Employing these Graduates
Around 61 Protesting Unemployed Graduates were arrested for questioning regarding the clashes according to the Fort Police.

Inquiry Report On Indian Pharmaceutical Companies Handover To The Health Ministry

The Report on the Inquiry held on Six Indian Pharmaceutical Companies who supplied Contaminated Injection Vials and Saline Bottles was handed over to the Health Ministry Secretary Dr.Athula Khanda Liyanage this Evening.The Report was handed over by the Director of the National Drug Authority Dr.Hemantha Beneragama.The Action to be taken against these Companies too included in this Report according to the Health Ministry Sources.

Health Secretary is to examined the Report and implement the recommendations of it within next few days.

New 12 Party Opposition Coalition Formed

The New 12 Party Coalition to contest forthcoming Presidential and Parliamentary Elections was formed at the Parliamentary Complex today under the leadership of  Main Opposition United National Party(UNP).The New Coalition  compromised with the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress,The  Democratic People's Front and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party(Mahajana Wing).

This Party Coalition was formed after the Party leaders signed up an Agreement.

President Appoints New IGP

President Mahinda Rajapaksha today appointed the Senior Deputy Inspector General Of Police(DDG) Mahinda Balasuriya  as  New Inspector General Of Police (IGP).New IGP was earlier attached to the Police Department as the Senior DIG Administrations.

He succeds the former IGP Jayantha Wicktamaratna who retired from his Post on Saturday.

Trade Unions Belongs To Essential Services To Launch A Work To Rule Campaign on 11th

Trade Unions attached to Water,Electricity,Petroleum and Ports have decided to launch an Island Wide Work to Rule Campaign from 11th of November demanding a Rs.5000 Pay Hike for their Employees.This decision was taken at the Meeting held at Viharamahadevi Park in Colombo today.

The Recent talks held between the Trade Unions and Government failed to reach an agreement on the Pay Hike following an Island Wide Work to Rule Campaign launched by the Petroleum Trade Unions on two weeks ago..

US Homeland Security Department Asked Former Sri Lankan Army Commander To Submit Evidance Against the Defense Secretary

The United States Department of Homeland Security has asked the Chief of Defence Staff and former Sri Lankan Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka to Submit Evidance on alleged Human Rights Violations by Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksha.General Fonseka confirmed this through a letter he had sent to the Sri Lankan Mission in Washington.


General Fonseka said in his letter that the US Officials repeatedly contacted his Son In Law's Phone to make the request.


US Government already submitted a Report on Sri Lanka to the US Congress citing Human Rights Violations occured during War against LTTE in Northern Sri Lanka  which  Sri Lankan Government Denied by saying the report is without Substantiate Evidance to prove the Charges levelled against the Sri Lankan Government.Meanwhile responding to the latest move of the US Government Sri Lankan Government today protests the US attempt to use Senior Sri Lankan Military Leader against a Senior Public Official for alleged Human Rights Violation Charges.
