Discussions are currently underway to transform the Sri Lanka Railways Department in to an Authority according to the Minister of Transport ,Highways and Media Bandula Gunawardane .
The transformation of Sri Lanka Railways Department in to an Authority will be done in view of providing a maximum quality service to the public the Minister has stated ,Transformation process will not effect to the Employees salaries and the pension scheme he had stressed
Three passengers had been killed and Seventeen others were injured and hospitalized after the Jaffna-Colombo bound Luxury Bus they were traveling collided with the Nochchimottai Bridge and toppled over the road at Vavuniya (Northern Province) today (05).
The injured were admitted to the Vavuniya Hospital for treatment ,Another Luxury Bus arrived behind the above bus had escaped from a possible accident as the driver of that Bus managed to drive the Bus into a nearby jungle .

The First Sri Lankan "Monekeypox" positive had been identified
through a "PCR " test carried out by the Medical Research Institute in
Colombo yesterday (I03) .
The infected person is a 20 year old boy who had returned from Dubai it has been revealed ,When he got suspicious symptoms he was first referred to the National STD /AIDS Campaign and from there he was transferred to the virology section in the Medical Research Institute .
After being tested positive for Monkeypox the patient has been transferred to the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Angoda .
The Public Utilities Commission had today (04) approved one hour daily island wide power cuts for this long weekend .
However the Commission had allowed a 2 hour long power cut to be implemented next Tuesday (08) by one hour during the day time and another one hour in the night session.
Sri Lanka Customs Officers had recovered a stock of Narcotics including "Kush","Mandy and "Ice" stored inside the 13 Air Mail parcels sent to Sri Lanka from Six European Countries .
Accordingly the stock of Narcotics worth more than Rs.73 million had recovered from the parcels sent from Britain ,Germany,Netherlands ,Belgium ,Canada and USA ,The documents provided to Postal officers had stated that Private items are contained in the parcels .The suspected 13 parcels were handed over to the Police Anti Narcotic Bureau for further investigations .
