Supreme Court Has Extended The Interim Order Issued On Suspending Appeals Court Decision To Abolish MP Geetha Kumarasinghe's MP Post

Image result for court orderThe Supreme Court has today(15) extended the interim order issued last week  to suspend the Appeals Court decision given to abolish the MP Post of Galle District United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) MP Geetha Kumarasinghe until concluding the hearing of a petition filed by the MP Kumarasinghe.

The three member Judge Panel of the Supreme Court has also rejected  the request made by Attorney General to reject the hearing of the petition filed by MP Kumarasinghe against the Appeals Court judgment .

The Appeals Court has given a verdict to abolish the MP Geetha Kumarasinghe's MP Post after considering a petition filed at the court by two voters in Galle District due to the MP's dual citizenship status.

According to the 19th amendment  of the Sri Lankan Constitution no one holds Dual citizenship eligible to contest a local election .

The petition filed by the MP Kumarasinghe against the Appeals Court decision is due to be heard at the Supreme Court on 25th of September ,04th of October and 13th of October.

Gangodawila Magistrate Has Ordered The Prisons Commisssioner To Admit A Remanded Police Constable To Angoda Hospital

The Gangodawila Magistrate has today(15) ordered the Prisons Commissioner to admit the imprisoned Police  Constable attached to the Mirihana Police who is in remand over firing a gun shot at the Elephant symbol at the headquarters of governing United National Party (UNP)"Sirikotha" ,Pitakotte on 01st of May to the ward number 21 of the Angoda National Mental Institute(Hospital)  for treatment .

The Magistrate has also ordered  to further remanded the suspected Police Constable until 29th of May after being produced before the court today.

The 40 year old Police Constable was charged over firing a gun shot at the Elephant Symbol of the UNP headquarters on  01st of May while in duty.

A DrIver Attached To Excise Department Had Committed Suicide

Image result for suicideA 38 year old driver attached to the  excise department had committed suicide by jumping to a moving Train near Gampaha Railway Station it has been reported.

The deceased had been identified as a resident of Veyangoda area and the cause behind the suicide has  not yet been revealed.

The Notification Stating Taking Over Of SAITM Private Medical Collage To The Government To Be Issued Today(15)

The notification stating that the controversial Malabe ,Private Medical Collage (SAITM) taking over to  the government is due to issue today(15) according to the Minister Of Higher Education and Highways Lakshman Kiriella.

The authorities of the SAITM agreed to hand over the Private Medical Collage to the government the Minister has stated.

Police Have Warned On A Threat Of Collapsing Sand Mounts To Ella-Wellawaya Road

Police have requested the motorists to be on alert when driving vehicles on the road.

WHO Appoints Amitabh Bachchan As Goodwill Ambassador For HepatitisWorld Health Organization (WHO)has appointed legendary Hindi Cinema Actor Amitabh Bachchan as the new Goodwill Ambassador for Hepatitis in South East Asia Region. 

Announcing the new appointment of Legendary Actor in Mumbai,India the Director of South East Asia Region for WHO Dr.Poonam Kethrapal Singh has stated last Friday(12)that with the appointment of Amitabh Bachchan WHO is expected to help strengthen the WHO's efforts in reducing the high numbers of premature deaths and illnesses from viral Hepatitis which is not only causing  hardships to individuals and families but also impacting health and development across the region.

Through preventive viral Hepatitis kills 410,000 in the south east aria region every year ,mostly people in their productive years.Nearly 90 million people in the region suffering from chronic liver disease that is driving rates of liver cancer and cirrhosis in the region according to the latest statistics WHO.

“I am absolutely committed to the cause of hepatitis. As a person living with hepatitis B, I know the pain and sufferings that hepatitis causes. No one should ever suffer from viral hepatitis,” Mr Bachchan said at an event here organized by World Health Organization in Mumbai,India.

 Mr .Bachchan’s voice is one that is listened to by people across the country, regardless of cultural, social or economic background and can make real change possible. We have witnessed this in polio eradication,” Mr J P Nadda, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, India, said in a video message, while congratulating Mr Bachchan and WHO for the momentous partnership.

As WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Hepatitis in the Region, Mr Bachchan will lend his voice and support to public awareness programmes that aim to scale up preventive measures and advocate for early diagnosis and treatment of viral hepatitis to reduce the disease burden.
