VAT Increase Is A Temporary Measure -Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake
Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake has today(04)stated that the VAT (Value Added Tax) increase implemented by the government recently is a temporary measure.
Government's aim is to get tax money from those who can pay them and not from the underprivileged people in the country the finance minister has stated.
The new projects like expressway in Kandy,elevated bridge in Rajagiriya and Moratuwa Bridge will be started in couple of weeks time and would like to call upon people in the country to assist the government in view of have a rapid development in the country Minister Karunanayake has further added.

Four Persons Have Been Detained While Digging A Well In Search Of A Treasure
Four Persons including a 62 year old female have been arrested by Police today(03)while illegally engaging in excavations at Madatugama in Anuradhapura District (In North Central Province) in search of buried treasure.
A 62 year old female and her 21 year old son were digging a well behind their home in search of a buried treasure with the help of two teenagers at the time of their arrest the police have stated.Various equipment including machinery which used for excavation have also be taken in to custody by the Police,
The four suspects and the equipment are due to be produced before Kekirawa Magistrate.

Sri Lanka Navy Have Detained Six Local Fishermen While Engaging In Ileagal Fishing
Sri Lanka Navy Personal have last Thursday(02)detained six local fishermen along with Dinghy Boat they were in and illegal fishing equipment while engaging in illegal fishing at Eastern Lagoon area of Serunuwara according to the Navy.
The Navy Personal have taken into custody a Dinghy Boat,Diving Mask,a pair of Diving Fins and other fishing equipment along with fishermen it has been reported.The detained fishermen and equipment were handed over to the Serunuwara Police for future course of action.

International Monetary Fund(IMF)Approved US Dollars 1.5 Billion Loan To Sri Lanka As A Support To Economic Reforms
The International Monetary Fund's (IMF) Executive Board has approved US Dollars 1.5 Billion loan for Sri Lanka for a three year period to support Sri Lankan Government's economic reforms the IMF has announced today(04).
According to the IMF out of the loan approved US Dollars 168.1 million will be provided to Sri Lanka as the first installment and the remain will be provided in six installments subjected to quarterly reviews .
"Despite the positive growth momentum,Sri Lanka's economy is beginning to show signs of strain from an increasingly difficult external environment and challenging policy adjustments "the IMF has stated from the press release issued today(04).
