The organizers of the International Indian Film Awards(IIFA) Ceremony scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka between 03rd-05 June confirmed today that there will be no change in the venue and the Event will go ahead as planned.The Awards Ceremony is scheduled to be held in Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo-13.
There are rumours that the event shifted outside colombo due to the threats of the Pro LTTE Groups.Several South Indian Film Personnale announced that they will not attending the Awards Ceremony following the threats of the Activists.However large number of Film Personnel in Northern India announced that they will attending the Event which is known as Indian Oscars.

Buddhists All Over The World Celebrated Wesak To Day
Buddhists all over the world today celebrated the Wesak full moon Poya day which marked the birth,enlightenment and the demise of the Lord Buddha.In Sri Lanka a special religious observances and alms giving were organized to mark this event and Wesak decorations including large Pandoles and lanterns are displayed throughout the capitol Colombo and the outstations.
There are more then ten pandals displayed within the colombo city.Today and tomorrow are declared as wesak holidays.

Stocks Of Eighty Five Essential Out Of Stock Drugs Due To Arrive Shortly
The stocks of Eighty Five Essential Drugs which are out of stock in the Government hospitals at present are due to arrive from India within next ten days according to the Medical Supplies Division sources.These Stocks are sufficient for three months the sources further stated.
The stocks of other Drugs which are out of stock due to arrive within short period of time the sources added.There are around three hundrad fifty essential Drugs and Surgical Items which are out of stock at the hospitals and the Medical Supplies Division at present.

Second Court Martial Case Against General Fonseka Resumed
The second court martial hearing against the formar army commander retired general sarath fonseka began today on the alleged violation of army procurement procedures.The military has not revealed the further details on the case .The next hearing of the case is to take place on the third week of next month.
Health Ministry Directed SPMC To Sell Their Drugs Through SPC
The Ministry of Health has directed the State pharmaceutical Manufacturing corporation(SPMC) to not to sell their medicinal products to the private sector without the permission of it's sister company the state pharmaceuticals corporation(SPC).According to the health trade unions the previous management of the pharmaceuticals manufacturing corporation involved in a financial Freud by selling some of the 52 medicinal drugs they produced to the private pharmacies.
After studying theses incidents Health Minister Maithreepala Sirisena has directed the SPMC Authorities to stop selling these drugs to the private sector and if they want to sell it should be done through their sister company SPC.

Floods Death Toll Risen To 20 As Heavy Showers Continue
The death toll due to floods risen to 20 today as most of the victims were reported from the Gampaha District.Still the Roads and Houses are under water in the district as well as most parts of the island as Heavy showers continues since last night.
Several Displaced centres are set up for the Displaced people almost every flood affected area and government distributed the food and medicine to the needy.
Meanwhile Government has decided to remove all the unauthorized buildings as it caused the floods in most parts of the western province including the capital colombo

Sri Lankan Air Line authorities today appealed to their passengers to report to the Bandaranaike International Air Port in Colombo four hours prior to the departure of their flights.This deceison was taken due to the traffic congestion caused by the floods.

A Chemical container stored in the colombo harbour has caught fire this evening and the fire brigade was rudhed to the scene and prevented the spreading of fire further.

Heavy Showers Affected Power Supply
Kelanithissa Power Plant authorities has announced this noon that the power supply to the areas in Kelaniya and Northern Colombo will curtailed if the heavy rain prevails continues in their stations.Already two of their power sub statons were under water according to the officials.
As a result the power supply to the areas of colombo-13,colombo 14 and 15 are already curtailed.

Ninteen Districts Were Flooded Due To Heavy Showers-125,000 Were Displaced
Large number of roads,highways and houses in Ninteen Districts of the Country were flooded and around 125,000 residents were displaced today due to the heavy showers prevails throughout the country since last night.The Roads in Balummahara,and Mirissa Junctions in Kandy the hill capital of Sri Lanka were also closed due to the Floods today.
Colombo,Gampaha and Kalutara Districts are the worst affected areas and four deaths related to floods are reported up to now according to the government officials.Meanwhile President Mahinda Rajapaksha who was in Iran to attend G-15 Meating has advised the Government officials to provide an emergancy relief to the flood victims with immediate effect.The Met Department has announced today that the Heavy showers prevails in the country will continue further due to the preasure growing in the bay of bengal at present.

Saline Is Depleting From The Medical Supplies Division- Health Ministry To Air Lift A Stock Of Saline From India
The Medical Supplies Division (MSD) and the Government Hospitals are facing a shortage of the essential life saving medicine Saline as the saline stock remains in the MSD is only sufficient for meating the demand of tomorrow. according to the Medical Supplies Division sources.There is a severe shortage of Saline in government hospitals and the government pharmacies these days.
Meanwhile Health Ministry sent an Air Force Plane to India this morning to bring a stock of saline sufficient for 14 days according to the Ministry sources.The Health Ministry has decided last friday to air lift the saline by using Air Force planes.However due to the technical difficulties experienced by the indian authorities the mission was suspended earlier sources said.

Court Of Appeal Issued Interim Order Against The Court Martial Trial On General Fonseka
The Court of Appeal today issued a Interim order restraining Army Commander to conduct the first Court Martial Trial against former Army Commander and the presidential Candidate Retired General Sarath Fonseka till 21st of May.
The Army Commander has conducting two court martial trials aginst General Fonseka who is now imprisoned since last March.
Price Of The Bread Increased
Sri lanka bakers association has increased the price of the loaf of bread by one rupee with the effect from midnight to night.The new price of the 450 gramme loaf of bread is rs.39.
According to the bakers association this price increase was done due to the recent price increase of a kilo of wheet flour by rs.3.However the prices of other bakery products will not increased the association stressed.This price increase will effect the majority of the consumers in urban and rural areas who are getting use to consuming bread daily due to the prices of rice are higher.
