Health Services Trade Union Alliance(HSTUA) To Day Revealed that The LTTE Forcibly Taken 150 Health Workers Including 20 Nurses Attached to the Kilinochchi Hospital As Hostages and Holding them inside a Temporary Hospital Building at Mulativue.Others who Are Taken as Hostages Including Minor Staff and Public Health Inspectors served in the Northern Provincial Hospitals.The President of the Alliance Mr.Saman Rathnapriya Requested LTTE To Released These Health Personal and Allow them to Move in to The Government Held Areas.

Addressing a Press Briefing In Colombo To Day Dr.Upul Gunasekara The Assistant Secretary Of The Association Said that The Cardio Thoracic Surgeons of the Hospital Last weak appealed to the Ministry Of Health to Send Cardiac Patients who Are in the Waiting List of the Colombo National Hospital with the Money For Jayawardenapura Hospital Due to they are Not having Patients to Perform Surgeries.However The Cardio Thoracic Unit of the Hospital Is Currently Facing A Drug and Equipment Shortage and How they Can Perform the Surgeries under This kind of Circumstance Is a Question He Stressed. The Governing Board of the Hospital Is Engaged In Spending Heavily The Funds Received By The Hospital For Useless Things like Painting A kitchen Instead of Developing the Infrastructure Dr Gunasekara Said.
If the Health Ministry Not Taking Steps to Correct this Irregularities of the Jayawardenapura Hospital Within Two Weeks Time GMOA Will Take A Stern Action against It He further Added.

Doctors are Prescribing Expensive Drugs for the Patients for Diseases like Diabetes e,Hypertension,Cholesterol,Heart and Kidney Diseases.Some Tablets are Expensive as Rs30 -50 Per Tablet and Most of the Government Patients are not able to Borne the Expenses.

Drugs Prescribed by the Doctors is due to they are Prescribed From Trade Names.Due to The Ban Imposed by the Ministry for Prescribing Drugs for the Patients In Trade Names Patients can Request the Doctors to Prescribe the Drugs by Generic Names Instead of Trade Names Ministry Further said.

Colombo Municipal Council To Take legal Action Against Those Who Throw Garbage To Road Side


Public Health Department of the Colombo Municipal Council Decides to Take a Legal Action against the Residents who are putting their Garbage on The Road sides in Colombo City as a Precaution for Preventing the Spreading of Dengue.This Decision came to Effect From Today The Chief Medical Officer of the Colombo Dr.Pradeep Kariyawasam said.During the last 16 days of this Month 38 Dengue Cases Reported from the Colombo City and Out of them 23 were Children According to Dr.Kariyawasam.
January Last Year only 18 Dengue Cases Reported from the City. There is an Out Break of the Disease Due to the Garbage Problem in the City as Mosquito Breeding Places are on Increase He stressed.

Chief Editor of the "Sunday Leader" News Paper Lasantha Wickramathunge(52) Died with Sustained Injuries This Evening after An Unidentified Gunmen Shot his head in Colombo Suburbs.Mr.Wickramathunge who is a Popular Media Personnel in Sri Lanka due to His style of journalism attacking the Government's Corruption activities was driving his Vehical to the News Paper Office when he was shot Around 10.30 A.M.He was Rushed to the South Colombo General Hospital(Kalubowila)Soon after the Incident by a Pedestrian and Surgeons Battling to Save his life by Performing a Surgery For More then Three Hours. but all Efforts taken to saving his life failed and He was Announced as Dead around 2.20 this evening.Mr.Wickramatunge sustained with External Bleeding and Brain Damage when he was passed away says The Director of the South Colombo General Hospital Doctor Anil Jasinha. According to him Mr.Wickramathunge's Heart was stopped at the time he got Admitted to the Hospital.
He was shot by Two Unidentified Gunmen chasing his vehicle from a Motor Bike Eye witnesses said.Mr.wickramathunge was shot Three Gun shots to his head but no bullets were found during the Surgery according to the Hospital sources.
Several Media Organizations and the Government Condemning this attack by saying this Assasination is a Big Blow to the Media Freedom Here.

Ministry Of Health Notified the Public Services Commission to Conduct an Disciplinary Inquiry on Thirty Eight Suspects attached to the National Blood Center -Colombo who are Proved to be Involved in Issuing of Expired Blood Kits to the Government Blood Banks.According to the Inquiry Report Of the Special Investigations Unit Of the Health Ministry These Persons are found Guilty on involving to the Incident.Majority of those Accused are Medical Officers and there are Administrative Officers,Store Keepers and Other Staff of the Blood Center also among them Ministry Sources said.
With these Thirty Eight The Total Number of People found to be Involved in this Expired Blood Kits Case risen to Forty Two.The Issuing of Expired Plasma Pherasis and A Pherasis Blood Kits To Four Government Blood Banks Rocks the Sri Lankan Health Sector In last July and the former Director of the National Blood Centre Dr.M.Bindusara,Medical Officer Dr.Lahir and Two Store Keepers of the Center were Interdicted by the Public Services Commission Due to their Direct Involvement to the Incident.

Unidentified Gunmen Set Fire And Destroyed The MTV/MBC T.V Studios


Unidentified Armed Gang Attacked One of the Popular Sri Lankan Private Television and Broadcasting Corporation The MTV/MBC Studio Complex in Depanama Pannipitiya within the Colombo Suburbs this Morning Around 5.30 A.M and Set Fire and Destroyed It's Main Control Room.All Their Transmissions put into Halt for Hours Due To This .However Sirasa T.V their Sinhalese News Channel managed to Begin their Transmission few Hours After the Incident.
Government Condemned this act and Ordered an Impartial Inquiry on to the Incident.A Special Police Team is Conducting Further Investigations on this.
