Police Have Arrested Two Persons Transporting A Stock Of Glyphosate Fertilizer In Periyamadu

Police have yesterday (22) arrested two persons while transporting 4205

packettes of " herbicide "Glyphosate" which banned in Sri Lanka in mundalama,Periyamadu area.

Police believed the stock of "Glyphosate " may be smuggled from India .

Major General Mahesh Senanayake Has Been Appointed As The New Chief Of Staff In Sri Lanka Army

Major General Mahesh Senanayake has been appointed as the new chief of

of staff of the Sri Lanka Army yesterday (22) according to the Ministry Of Defense.

Prior to his new appointment he served as the commander of security Force headquarters in Jaffna.

Major General Senanayake won several military awards and medels during his career for his involvement in battles against terrorists.

President Arrived In Russia For An Official Visit

President Maithripala Sirisena arrived

In Russia this evening (22) for an official visit as per an mvitation made by Russian President Vladimir Putin .

President Sirisena is the first Sri Lankan president who have visited Russia since 1974.

President is due to begin bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin tomorrow(23).His visit also marks the 60 the anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Russia.

wimal weerawansha has launched a fastimg campaign in welikada remand prison against refusing his revised bail application by the Colombo high court yesterday (21).

The MP refuse to take his breakfast and lunch due to the fasting it has been reported.

MP Weerawansha was arrested by the police financial crimes investigations division (FCID) on 10 th of January over misusing of state owned vehicles during the previous regime .He was further remanded until 03 rd of April by the Colombo high court after been produced before the court yesterday .
