Veteran Professional Dancer Rajini Selvanayagam Passed Away

 The Veteran Popular traditional local dancer and Teacher of Dancing Kalasuri, Vishwakalakeerthi Rajini  Selvanayagam passed away last morning (20) .



As the well renowned professional dancer and Dancing instructor Rajini Selvanayagam had formed her dance academy "Chamara kala niketanaya "in 1975 and dedicated her career to create a unique forms of Sri lankan dance art.The detals of her funeral to be notified later.


Kelaniya University Students Staged A Protest Campaign

A group of students attached to the Students union of the Universtiy of Kelaniya had staged a a protest campaign yesterday(20) near the Colombo -Kandy main road demanding  the abolition of  terrorism prevention act and similar to that act.



The group of protesting students had begun the protest last   night(20) and police had used barricades to block the road preventing their entry.

Rock And Soil Mound Fall Closed The Ella-Wellawaya Road

Due to the Rock and soil mound fall both lanes of Ella-Wellawaya road had closed last night(18) according to the Disaster Management Center in Badulla.




The road was completely blocked as the reult of rock and soil mound fall it has been reported . However the authorities had opened one lane this morning for traffic .

Meanwhile the Department of Meteorology had announced heavy showers are due to be experienced in many parts of the Island this evening(19).

Public Consultation On Electricity Tarrif Hike Begun

The Public Consultation on the Electricity tarrif Increase has begun last morning (18) according to the Public Utilities Commission.

 .


Before reaching a final decision regarding the increase of Electricity tariffs public utilities commission had consulted 30 parties including the Ceylon Electricity Board(CEB) during the public consultation it has been reported.

Earlier the Public Utilities Commission had informed the Electricity Board seeking an Electricity tarrif hike by 22 percent the data presented by the Board is not in line with Sri Lanka's state of affairs.CEB later handed over another data collection in this regard it has been reported.

 

Water Levels Of Mahaweli Reservoirs Had Increased To 46 Percent

The water levels of the Mahaweli reservoirs had increased  to 46 percent by yesterday( 18)due to the heavy  showers experienced in the country at present according to the Mahaweli Authority.  


Accordingly the water capacities  of Victoria and Kotmale reservoirs had increased to 44 and 77 percent rrespectively the Wster Management Secretariet of the Mahaweli Authority had stated..The water of these reservoirs are currently being released for cultivation of Maha season and the process is due to be completed on 01st of November.
