Government Reduced The Levy Imposed On Imported Maize
The Government had slashed the special commodity levy imposed on Maize imported for manufacturing "Thriposha" by the Sri Lsnka Thriposha Limited.
Accordingly the special Commodity levy of Rs.75 imposed on a Kilo Gramme of Imported Maize had been reduced by Rs.50 to Rs.25 the Finance Mimistry has announced.
A 51 Year Old Person Was Shot Dead In Borella
A 51 year old person was shot and killed by two unidentified Gunmen arrived in a Motorcycle at Lesly Ranagala Road in Borella ( Colombo ) this morning (20) .
The deceased who was a resident in Kelaniya area had faced this incident whilst engaged in paying the salaries of Janitorial workers of an institution .The reason behind the shooting has not yet been revealed .
Eight University Student Activists Arrested By The Police Granted Bail.
Mahara Magistrate Court had yesterday (19) granted conditional bail for 08 Student activists attached to the Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) including the convener of the Federatoon Wasantha Mudalige who were arrested last Thursday night by the Kiribathgoda Police over obstructing the Police duties during a protest march.
The eight student activists were arrested by the Police whilst staging a protest campaign in front of the University of Kelaniya demanding immediatte release of Students activists of The university who are in remand custody.
These Student activists had been charged on obstructing police duties when they along with other activists of the IUSF had blocked the Colombo -Kandy road carrying torch lamps .
A 10 Hour Long Water Cut To Be Implemented Today (19)
A 10 hour long water cut is scheduled to be implemented in 04 local government institution areas and 04 divisions of the Colombo District from 10 p.m tonight (19) until 8 a.m tomorrow morning (20) according to the National Water Supplies and Drainage Board (NWSDB) .
Accordingly the water supply to Kotte and Kaduwela Municipal Council areas and to the Maharagama and Boeralsgamuwa Urban council areas as well as Colombo-04 ,05,07 and 08 divisions will be halted during that period due to an essential maintenance work at Ambathale water purification plant the Water Board had announced,
Electricity Bill Should Reduced By 20 Percent-Public Utilities Commission
The Ceylon Electricity Board(CEB) should reduced the Electricity Bill by 20 percent according to the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) Janaka Ratnayake.
However Ceylon Electricity Board had informed the PUC that the Electricity Bill can be reduced by 3 percent and that percentage is not sufficient at all Public Utilities Commission chairman had stressed,.
