There's A Need To Impose 6-8 Hour Long Daily Power Cuts From Next Year If There's A No Hike In Electrcicity Bills

 If  the proposed Electricity bill hike is not implemented .There's a need to impose 6-8 hour daily island wide  power cuts from January next year the Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekare had informed the Parliament yesterday (06).Nighttime power cuts back - June 2nd & 3rd - NewsWire

Making a special statement in the Parliament yesterday ,Minister Wijesekare has stated that Electricity bills have to be increased from next January to meet the expenditure of Ceylon Electricity Board (ceb) needs to produce electricity units .CEB is spending Rs.56.90 to produce a unit of Electricity and all together the Board needs Rs.420 billion to meet its expenditure he has stressed;

Two University Students Federation Conveners Granted Bail Today (06))

 Kaduwela Magistrate Court had today (06) released the imprisoned   conveners of Inter University Students Federation and Inter Universty Bhikku students Federation Wasantha Mudalige and Galwewa Siridhamma thero.


They were released on a surety bail.of Rs.100,000 each .Both the conveners were arrested and held under police custody for 89 days  under the terrorism prevention act  over the protests organized by them .

However the convener of Inter University students Federation Wasantha Mudalige has been further remanded until 12th of December over another  case files against him  .The case filed against  the two conveners is scheduled to be  taken  up for hearing on 25th of April next year.


Trade Inions Attached To CEB And Ports Authority Staged Protests

 Trade unions attached to Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and Sri Lanka Ports Authority had staged protest campaigns in front of Electricity Board head quarters and Clock tower ) at Colombi Fort today (06) against the  increasing Electricity tariffs and selling lands belong to ports authority .


Protesters had demanded  the authorities to reverse back the decisions taken to increase Electricity tariffs and selling of land belongs to Ports authority .
