Colombo High Court Tribunal Had Sentenced Former Prisons Commissioner To Death Over Killing Of Prison Inmates

 Colombo High Court Tribunal had today (12) sentenced the former Prison Commissioner General Emil Ranjan Lamahewa  to death over the killing of 08 Prison  inmates during the unrest occurred at Welikada Prison on 09th of November 2012 .


However the Tribunal Judge panel  had ordered to  free the former Police Inspector attached to Police Anti Narcotic Bureau Neomal Rangajeewa who is the first accused of the prison killings from all the charges leveled against him .

Around 21 prison inmates attached to Welikada Prison were killed during the unrest occurred among prison inmates in 2012 when a group of Special Police Task Force (STF) Personal had arrived in prison premises for a search operation . Commander of the Special Police task force then along with few other officers also were  injured due to the incident ,

653 Corona Positives Had Been Reported Today (12)

 A total of 653 Corona Positives had been reported in the country today (12) Increasing the total number of Corona positives reported so far to 593,725 according to Epidemiology Unit .



Out of these positives 02 were foreign arrivals .At the moment 11,043 Corona positives are being treated at Hospitals ,Quarantine Centers and under home care system the Epidemiology Unit has stated ,

14 Corona Deaths Had Been Reported Today (12)

 Another 14 Corona deaths had been reported in the country today (12) ,Increasing the total number of Corona deaths reported so far to 15,163 according to Director General Of Health Services (DGHS).


Accordingly 07 males and 07 females had died due to Corona infection the DGHS has stated ,Out of the deceased 11 were over 60 years of age and 03 were belonged to 30-60 year age group it has been revealed .

Several Parts In The Island Had Experienced Power Cuts

 Due to a sudden breakdown of a private generator attached to the  Kelanithissa Power Plant several areas in the island had experienced hours long power cuts according to Ceylon Electricity Board ,

At the moment 10,563 Corona Positives are being treated at Quarantine Centers ,Hospitals and under home care systems  the Unit has stated ,

Meanwhile 149 Corona positives had been recovered and discharged from hospitals today ,Increasing the total number of Corona Positives recovered and discharged from hospitals and quarantine centers
