A Person Was Arrested Whilst Transporting Heroin

Kosgama Police have arrested a 28 year
old person whilst transporting 104.80 Grammes of Heroin in a Motorcycle in Hingurala,kosgama yesterday (19).

The suspect who is a resident of Galle had earlier distributed Hetoin to Kaduwrla,Deraniyagala,Hanwella,Awissawella and Kosgama areas it has been revealed.

The estimated value of the haul of Heroin taken in to custody in possession of the suspect is around Rs.2 million .

The suspect is due to be produced before Awissawella Magistrate Court.

Special Two Day Dengue Control Programme To Be Implemented In 44 MOH Areas Belonging To Five Districts


A Special two day Dengue Control Programme scheduled to be implemented in 44 Dengue high risk MOH areas belonging to five Districts Tomorrow (21) and the day after (22) by the National Dengue Control Programme in collaboration with the Presidential Task Force on Dengue .

Accordingly this special Dengue Control Programme will be implemented in 44 MOH areas belonging to Colombo,Gampaha,Kalutara ,Puttalam and Kalmuani Districts .570  Teams comprising of Tri forces personal ,Police and Community Health Workers will be involved in Dengue Control activities in High risk places  including  Houses,Construction sites ,Work sites ,Institutes,Religious places ,Factories and Public places according to National Dengue Control Programme.

 This two day Dengue Control Programme will be implemented  as a result of the Dengue risk occurred due to the rainy weather prevailing in most areas these days the Programme has stated.

Three University Students Protests Created Heavy Traffic In Colombo

Three University Students protest
marches held today (19)in Colombo had created a heavy traffic congestion in many roads in and around Colombo.

Riot police have fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse a protest march conducted by Inter University Students Federation along with Students Union attached to Sabaragamuwa University this evening infront of University Grants Commission building at Ward Place,Colombo .

The protest march which began infront of Colombo fort railway station has demanded to stop cutting receuitments of Sabaraganuwa University .A heated arguement erupted between Protesters and police had ended after firing tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters .

Another Protest was held in front of Health Ministry organized by Medical Faculties Students Action Committee opposed providing internship training for SAITM Medical graduates.

Students attached to professional Technology University in Ratmalan  had protested infront of Nipunata Piyasa in Narahenpita.

Around 23 TB Patients Amd 02 TB Deaths Are Being Reported Daily From Sri Lanka

Around 23 TB (Tuberculosis )patients and 02 TB deaths are being reported from the island daily  according to District TB Control.Officer Dr.A .Ramachandra .

Addressing a Media briefing held today (19)at Health Promotions Bureau in Colombo  on World TB Day Dr.Ramachandra has stressed that although Sri Lanka is targeting to eliminate TB From the country by the year 2025 still there are 4000 unidentified  TB patients  in.the country who are spreading the disease silently  in the society.

Around 8228 TB Patients had been reported from Sri Lanka last year with 5:3 male to female ratio rate and out of this number 40 percent had been reported in the Western province according to the latest statistics.25  percent out of this number had been reported from Colombo district it has been revealed.

TB Control officers had requested the public to seek medical treatment if someone has symptoms like a cough lasted more than two weeks,sudden loss of body weight and loss of appetite they have stressed.

There are 26 chest clinics located throughout the island performing  sputum tests to confirm the TB status and  providing TB treatment .
