Around 100 acres of Land belonging
to the reserve of Saint Clare waterfall in Thalawakale area had been destroyed due to a sudden fire erupted there this noon (10) according to reports.
Due to the dry weather prevailing in the Central Hill areas these days the fire spreads towards Hatton-Nuwara-Eliya main road as well and the workers attached to Thalawakale-Lindula Urban Council had doused the fire before spreading it further it has been reported.The workers have also cut a large tree near the main road as the fire spreads towards it as well according to sources.
Authorities believes a group of persons might have lit the fire to the reserve and due to the hot weather conditions it spreads rapidly .
Environmental Organizations have requested the public to provide information regarding those who are lighting fire to the reserves these days.
