A Persons Was Arrested With A Stock Of "Wallapatta " Ar Airport

A 21 year old Sri Lankan had been arrested by the Airport Customs Officers today (02) whilst
attempting to smuggle 27 Kilo Grammes of expensive "Wallapatta" known as Gyrinops  Walla" to Dubai via Mumbai,India at the Katunayake,Bandaranaike International Airport .

The estimated value of the stock of "Wallapatta" taken in to custody in possession of  the suspect is around Rs.1.2 million it has been revealed.

The Customs officers have confiscated the stock of "Wallapatta" and released the suspect who is a resident of Negambo  after fining  him Rs.100,000.

Navy Have Arrested Two Persons With 11.6 Kilo Grammes Of Gold

Sri Lanka Navy have today (02) arrested Two Persons whilst attempting to transport 11.6 Kilo
Grammes of Gold by a Dinghy Boat at Kalpitiya-Kudawa Sea Coastal Area (Puttalam).

Navy have also taken in to custody the stocl of Gold in  possession of the suspects and the Dinghy Boat they have attempted to transport the Gold.

A legal action is due to be taken against the suspects and Sri Lanka Navy are conducting an investigations over the incident. .

A Fire Is Spreading In Hatton -Singimale Reserve

A Sudden fire erupted at the Hatton -Singimale Forest reserve this evening  (02) is currently spreading towards the top of the Singimale Mountain fromthe bottom of it , it has been reported.

The fire erupted in the reserve which located on the Singimale Railway tunnel Road of the Up-country Railway line might have  caused due to a lighting of fire to the reserve by an individual according to Forest Conservation  Department. The fire is spreading rapidly due to the Hot climate prevailing in the area at present .

Forest Conservation Officers have already requested Army to assist the dousing of fire.

A large varieties of Endangered  Animals and birds are currently living  in the reserve.

Five Slovakian Nationals Had Been Arrested With Thousands Of Varieties Of Endangered Species And Tree Parts Collected From.Sinharaja Forest

Forest Conservation Officers have this
morning  (02)arrested 05 Slovakian Nationals with 1000 varieties of Sri Lankan Endangered Species ,Tree and Animal parts and seeds collected illegally  from Sinharaja Forest reserve  in their possession Whilst attempting to move  out from the forest .

Among the Varieties of Endangered species taken in to custody in possession of the suspects were three varieties of Endangered Butterflies ,Scorpions and Wasps according to Forest Conservation Department.

The 05 Slovakian Nationals Had arrived in Sri Lanka recently and entered the SinhaRaja Forest reserve by purchasing tickets and resided in a lodge nearby it has been revealed.

When the suspects have refused to get a service of a Tourist Guide at the entry of the forest reserve ,Forest Conservation Officers have paid  special attention  towards them and inspected their movements it has been reported.

The five suspects have collected live animals as well as dead animals for their collection and when inquired they have told the officers that they have collected those as a hobby.

The varities  of Species and Tree parts taken in to custody had been taken to the Forest Conservation Department for inspection and the Department is expecting to question the suspects under detention  orders.

Taxes On Imported Potatoes And Maize Had Been Increased

Government has decided to increase the taxes imposed on Imported potatoes and Maize by Rs.30 and Rs.10 per a Kilo Gramme with effective from 01st of February according to Ministry Of Agriculture .

Accordingly the tax on Imported potatoes has been increased from Rs.20 to Rs.50 per a Kilo Gramme and tax on Imported Maize has been increased by Rs.10 per a Kilo Gramme Ministry has stated .

This step. has been taken under the recommendation of President Maithripala Sirisena in.view of protecting local potatoes and Maize farmers Agriculture Minister P.Harrison has stressed .
