More Than 20 Acres Of Land At An Estate In Hatton Had Been Destroyed Due To A Fire

More Than 20 acres of Land  attached to an Estate at Hatton area had been destroyed due to a
sudden fire erupted there this noon (12) it has been reported.

Due to the dry weather and strong winds prevailing in the central hill areas  at present the fire is spreading rapidly and Estate workers are engaged in dousing the fire .

Authorities believes a group of persons might have lit the fire in aim of hunting wild animals in the area.

Police have requested public to provide information on those who are lighting fires to reserve these days in view to protect them .

A Special Holiday Has Been Announced For Schools In North This Monday To Mark Thaipongal Day

A special holiday has been announced for All schools in Jaffna this Monday  (14)prior to the "Thaipongal" day  celebrations scheduled  on Tuesday (15)the Northern Provincial Governors office has announced .

To cover the School activities  that will be missed due  to the Holiday announced on  Monday Schools will be held in an extra day during a Weekend Governors office has stressed. 

This Tuesday is a Government, Bank and Mercantile Holiday in Sri Lanka to mark the Thaipongal Day of the Hindu Nationals.


Proposals Of The Expert Committee Appointed To Draft A Constitution Handed Over It's Report To Constitutional Council

The Chairman of the Constitutional 
Operations Committee Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe has handed over the report containing proposals for  the constitution,  of the expert committee appointed on Drafting a new Constitution to the Constitutional Council last morning  (11).

Constitutional Council has met last morning at Parliamentary Complex under the patronage of it's head Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri.

After handing over the report Prime Minister Wikramasinghe has stressed the proposed new Constitution will not betray the country and change thr unitary status of Sri Lanka and protity given to Buddhism.The proposals  contained in the  report handed over to the Council were   not the draft of the new Constitution  he has stressed .

No final decision has been taken regarding the abolishing Executive presidency and Election system under the New Constitution Premier  has pointed out .

Meanwhile  Former President and Kurunagala District MP Mahinda Rajapakshe has questioned whether the Government MP's need a new Constitution.

  

A Sudden Fire Erupted At a Newly Constructed Building In US Embassy Had Doused

A Sudden fire erupted at a newly
constructed building in US Embasy at Galle Road, Colombo this morning (12)had doused by the Fire brigade of the Fire Services Department attached to Colombo Municipal Council  before spreading further it has been reported .

Around 12 Fire fighters had been involved in dousing the fire .The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed .
