All Sluice Gates Of Yan Oya Reservoir To Be Opened Tomorrow (28)

All sluice gates of Yan Oya Reservoir are due to be opened tomorrow (28)morning as the water level of the Reservoir has been  increased rapidly according to Disaster Management Center .

People living in low land areas around the Reservoir are being advised to be on alert on possible floods as a result of opening the sluice gates The center has said .

As a result of the overflowing of Huruluwawa Reservoir, Water level of the Yan Oya reservoir has also increased up to 36 meters according to sources .

Teenage Lovers Had Committed Suicide In Anuradhapura

Teenage lovers who were students had

committed suicide by jumping in front of a slow Train travelling from Anuradhapura to Madawachchiya area ,Between MIhinthale Junction and Hathareswela Train Station this morning (27 ).

Accordingly A 17 year old male student who was a resident of Anuradhapura and a 14 year old female student who was a resident of Matara had committed suicide .

The reason behind the suicide incident has not yet been revealed .

European Union Has Suspended Importing Sri Lankan Curry Leaves To Four Countries

European Union has suspended the importing of Sri Lankan Curry Leaves to four European Countries after the authoroties have discovered pesticides in a stock of curry leaves imported from Sri Lanka according to Sri Lankan Mission in Rome, Italy .

Accordingly importing of Curry Leaves from Sri Lanka to Italy ,Greece ,Malta and Cyprus has been suspended accordance to a notification issued by European Union.

Due to this situation Sri Lankan Mission in Rome has advised Sri Lankans travelling to Italy and other three countries not to bring Curry leaves known as "Karapincha" here in their bags as it will violate the suspension .

A group of Sri Lankans arrived in Rome had been found carrying Curry leaves in their bags recently according to reports .

Meanwhile National Plant Quarantine Unit has stated that Sri Lanka will take meassures to lift the suspension imposed on Curry leaves as soon as possible.

Sri Lankans Commemorated Thousands Of Persons Who Had Been Killed By Tsunami Waves 14 Years Ago

Sri Lankans  have yesterday

(26)observed two minute silence from 9.25 a.m to 9.27 a.m to commemorate those who had been killed during the deadly Tsunami which struck Sri Lanka 14 years ago on 26 th of December 2004 .
Commemorative programmes and Religious observances to commemorate more than 35,000 persons who had been killed due to the Tsunami which struck Sri Lanka, held throughout the island yesterday .

The main Commemoration was held Infront of Paraliya Tsunami Commemoration Site In Hikkaduwa last morning where thousands had been killed or missing after a Train caught by Tsunami waves which arrived at a speed of 800 Kilo meters per hour .
