Sri Lankans Commemorated Thousands Of Persons Who Had Been Killed By Tsunami Waves 14 Years Ago

Sri Lankans  have yesterday

(26)observed two minute silence from 9.25 a.m to 9.27 a.m to commemorate those who had been killed during the deadly Tsunami which struck Sri Lanka 14 years ago on 26 th of December 2004 .
Commemorative programmes and Religious observances to commemorate more than 35,000 persons who had been killed due to the Tsunami which struck Sri Lanka, held throughout the island yesterday .

The main Commemoration was held Infront of Paraliya Tsunami Commemoration Site In Hikkaduwa last morning where thousands had been killed or missing after a Train caught by Tsunami waves which arrived at a speed of 800 Kilo meters per hour .

CID Arrested A Western Provincial Councillor Over Issuing Rs.72 Million Worth Fraudulant Cheques

Criminal Investigations Department
(CIF)had today (26)arrested Western Provincial Council Member of Democratic People's Front Shanmuganathan Kuhawardhan over issuing fraudulant Cheques worth Rs.72 million .

The suspect who is a 42 year old Resident of Dehiwala area is scheduled to be produced before Mount Lavinia Magistrate Court tomorrow (27).

Meanwhile Democratic People's Front leader Minister Mano Ganeshan has announced that the suspected Western Provincial Councillor had been removed from all positions of the Party and his party membership has also suspended with immediate effect .

A Fire Was Erupted In A Plane Halted In Mattala Airport

A Sudden fire erupted in an engine of a

Plane halted in Mattala International Airport this morning (26)had delayed the plane from flying to Salam,Oman it has been reported.

The fire erupted in an Engine of the  Antanov-CVK 7042 Flight flying from Thailand to Oman had doused by the fire Brigade  in Mattala Airport  before spreading it further .

The Plane which was landed the Mattala Airport last evening to get fuel had caught fire when attempting to fly to Salam ,Oman .Around seven crew members were there in the flight at the time of the incident and no one was injured as a result of the fire. 

Two Day Island Wide Railway Strike Scheduled To Be Launched Today (26) Has Been Temporarily Suspended

Railway Trade Unions have decided to suspend the two day Island Wide Railway Strike they have earlier planned to launch with effect from midnight tonight (26) after the discussions held with Minister Of Transport and Civil Aviation Arjuna Ranathunge at the Transport Ministry.

Five Categories belonging to Railway service including Engine Drivers ,Railway Guards ,Station Masters ,Controllers and Supervision Management officers have decided to launch the strike by demanding to implement the Cabinet decision regarding removing salary anomalies of Railway Workers.

During the discussion with Minister Ranathunge ,He has given a written assurance to Railway Trade Unions to implement the Cabinet decision on salary anomalies within a one month period it has been revealed .

Navy Divers Recovered Bodies Of Two Youth Who Had Fallen From Bambaragama Falls

Navy divers have today (26 )recovered the bodies of two youth of the ages 20 and 21 years old who had fallen down from Bambaragama Falls in Bandarawela located in upper part of Ravana Falls in Ella area yesterday  (25).

The deceased who are residents of Divuumwela ,Keppetipola and HIloya areas had fallen down from the falls whilst one of them had attempted to take a selfie picture after bathing it has been revealed.

The third youth who is a resident of Hiloya area has escaped narrowly after falling down from Bambaragama falls and admitted to Bandarawela District Hospital for treatment . He had fallen down whilst attempting to rescue other youth it had been revealed


The three youth had accompanied few relatives with them on their journey  to the Falls .
