Appointed Premier Betrayed The People By Reducing The Sugar Tax Imposed On Soft Drinks To Entertain Multi National Companies -Dr.Rajitha Senaratne

Minister of Health of the Good governance government Dr.Rajitha Senaratne has today (01)severely condemned the decision taken by the appointed Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakshe to reduce the Sugar Tax imposed on Soft Drinks by saying Appointed Premier has entertained the multi national soft drink manufacturers by betraying the people .
"I would like to request appointed Premier Rajapakshe to reconsider his decision to reduce Sugar tax imposed on Soft drinks. Around 70 percent of annual deaths occurred in Sri LANKA are due to non communicable diseases.Diabetes is the main cause .Around 10 percent of our population got diabetes and another 20 percent are at risk of getting it .SuGary foods and soft drinks are one of the  main causes  behind diabetes .It's sad to see how the new Premier has taken such a decision without knowing facts just for the benefit of multi national companies .Unfortunately some doctors unions which aware on the health problems related to soft drnks too behind the decision to reduce Sugar tax " Dr.Senaratne has stressed through a press release issued to the Media today .

A 17 Year Old Person Has Been Arrested With A Haul Of Heroin

Police officers attached to unsolved
Crimes Investigation Unit in Mount Lavinia Police Division have  arrested a 17 year old youth with  2 Grammes and 200 Mili Grammes of Heroin in his possession at Ratmalana area(Colombo) last evening  (30).

The suspect who is a resident of "Araliya"housing scheme in Ratmalana has been handed over to Mount Lavinia Police with the haul of Heroin taken in to custody , to take  legal Action against him .

Three Members Of "Ava"Group Had Been Arrested In Jaffna

ChunnaKam Police have arrested three
youth believes  to  be members of "Ava"  group with seven swords in their  possession last night (30)in Jaffna .

The suspects had been arrested in Kokkuwil   and Ottumadam areas in Jaffna it has been revealed.

A Person Was Arrested Over The Killing Of Two Police Constables

  • KilinochchI Police have arrested a
    person today (01)at Wattakachchiya area in KilinochchI  (Northern Province  )over the killing of two police Constables near the Vavnathivu police post in Batticaloa last  morning  (30).


The 48 year old suspect had been handed over to the group of Criminal Investigations Department  (CID) officers arrived in Batticaloa yesterday ftom Colombo for further investigations over the killings .

It is believed that someone shot and killed the two Police Constables who were 28 and 35 years old as a revenge against removing decorations made in Pandiadi Cemetery  recently to commemorate LTTE Members by the Police.

The gunmen who had shot and killed two Police Constables fled away by steeling firearms belonging to.them.The deceased Police Constables had been shot at their heads it has been revealed during their post mortem held in Batticaloa Hospital .

Meanwhile  Police Department has promoted two Police Constables who were killed in Batticaloa to the rank of Police Sargent.
