Parliamentary Proceedings Held Seven And Half Hours Uninteruptedly Without A Break

Parliamentary proceedings which
commenced at 10.30 a.m today (23 )under the patronage of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya held around seven and half hours without intetval until 6 p.m this evening without the presence of minority government members .

Speakers seated in opposition bench spoke mainly on the current situation in the country and status of people as well as on the  Constitutional conspiracy in October .

As per proposed by Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna (JVP) leader and opposition Organizer Anura Kumara Dissanayake Parliamentary proceedings adjourned until 1 p.m next Tuesday (27).

Earlier in the day Party Leaders meeting convened under the patronage of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya at 9 a.m this morning prior to the Parliamentary proceedings ended without a conclusion. The meeting was held to finalize today's parliamentary agenda and the composition of Parliamentary select committee.

Security was tightened at Speaker's office and Parliament Complex during the meeting. Snuffer dogs have used to check inside Parliament before the proceedings .

Minority Government Again Failed To Show Its Majority - Composition Of Select Committee Proposal Has Passed Unanimously As 121 Voted In Favor

Minority government again failed to
show its majority in Parliament as parties in the opposition had passed the composition of Parliament select committee proposed by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya by majority of 121 votes,as 121 voted in favor of the composition whilst no one voted against it.

Just before the voting has commenced members of the minority government had left the house and few MP's have remained in government bench it has been reported .

Soon after the  House leader of United National Front government Lakshman Kiriella and opposition Organizer Anura Kumara Dassanayake have propposed   a vote by name to approve the composition of Parliament Select committee, As a result Minority government MP's walked out of  the house opposing the move.

However speaker has decided to take the vote through the electronic system and as a result 121 MP's seated in opposition bench have voted in favour of the composition .

Accordingly appointed  minority government MP's who nominated seven members for the Select committee got only five and the opposition including the United National Front Nominated around eleven numbers and got seven members .

A Person Was Arrested With A Haul Of Heroin

Police officers attached to Organized
Crimes Prevention Division have today (22)arrested a 37 year old person whilst transporting 1.10 Kilo Grammes of Heroin and cash worth Rs.6.1 million in a Jeep at Kesbawa  area .

The estimated value of the haul of Heroin taken in to custody during the raid is around Rs 12. 1 million other has been revealed.

The suspect who is resident of Piliyandala area is due to be produced before the Kesbawa Magistrate Court tomorrow (23).

United National Front Nominated Five Members For The Parliament Select Committee

United National Front (UNF)lead by
United National Party had nominated five members for the Twelve member Parliament Select Committee UNP Has announced today  (22).

Accordingly UNF has nominated the names of Lakshman Kiriella,Patali Champika Ranawake ,Mano Ganeshan ,Rishad Baduideen and Rauf Hakeem for the Select committee.

However minority government has nominated seven members for the committee and Leftist Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna  (JVP)nominated two members and Tamil National Alliance (TNA)to announce it's nominated members for the committee soon.
