Minister Of Water Supply Rauf Hakeem Submitted A Cabinet Paper Seeking An Approval To Increase The Water Bill By 65 Percent

Minister of Water Supplies and Urban
Design Rauf Hakeem had submitted a Cabinet Paper to the Cabinet Yesterday (23) by seeking an approval to increase the water bill by 65 percent amidst the protests of two Ministers. 

Accordingly Minister's Dr.Sarath Amunugama and Rishard Baduideen had strongly opposed the Cabinet Paper it has been revealed.

Minister Hakeem however pointed out that as a result of not increasing the Water bill since 2010, Water Board is functioning with losses and therefore the Water bill should be increased.

The Cabinet had handed over the matter to Cost of Living Committee to decide on whether the Water Bill should be increased or not .

A Protest March Of Estate Workers Closed The Lotus Road Temporarily

The Entry road to Galle Face Road,Lotus
Road had been temporarily closed down for traffic since this morning (24) Due to a protest march of youth Estate workers it has been reported .

Around Thousand Estate Workers attached to Estates in many parts of the island including Estates in  Nuwara Eliya are being involved in the protest march begun from Colombo Fort Railway station by demanding the increasing of the daily wages of Estate Workers to Rs.1000 .

At the moment they are Protesting at Galle Face grounds.

A Sinking And Landslide Threat At Ella -Wellawaya Road

A sinking and Landslide threat
occurred in an area between 24 th and 25 th mile posts of Ella -Wellawaya main road due to the broken side bund there acording to reports.

As a result of the broken bund there's a sinking and Landslide threat in the above area of the main road due to heavy showers prevailing in the area  and Motorists are being advised to be vigilant when travelling on the road the authorities have said.

Sluice Gates Of Parakrama Samudraya And Four Reservoirs Had Been Opened Due To Rising Water Levels

As a result of the rising water levels caused due to heavy showers prevailing in sluice gates of Parakrama Samudraya (River) and four reservoirs had been opened according to Department Of Irrigation.

Accordingly 6 out of 10 sluice gates belonging to Parakrama Samudraya ,4 sluice gates of Rajanganaya Reservoir,4 sluice gates of Daduru Oya Reservoir ,1 sluice gate each of Angamuwa Reservoir and Kukule Ganga Reservoir had been opened yesterday (23).

Authorities have advised people living in low land areas near the Parakrama Samudraya and other four Reservoirs to be vigilant over possible floods due to this situation.
