Sri Lanka had imported around 60,000 Metric tonnes of Fruits from foreign countries during last year(2017) although the country is rich with many fruits according to Minister Of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera .
Rs.9000 million had been spent to import the stock of fruits it has been revealed.
Government has recently decided to restrict importing of Fruits and Vegetables to Sri Lanka mainly by considering this situation and due to the depreciation of Sri Lankan Rupee against a US Dollar.
Due to Thunderous Heavy showers experienced in several areas of Monaragala District during last evening (19)and night ,Soil Mounds and rocks had fallen in to the Ella-Wellawaya main road from Ravana Falls it has been reported.
As a result the Transport activities of the main road had been disrupted .
Buttala City had Been submerged since last evening due to the showers and as a result of falling trees in to the lamp posts in the city ,power failure had been experienced in the area since last night according to reports.
Meanwhile a section of a bund belongs to the Yudaganawa Wewa (River)in Buttala had been broken due to the showers this morning (20).
Department of Meteorology has stated that the heavy showers will continues during the weekend in many areas of the island .
(CID)has yesterday (19)informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne that there are sufficient facts to arrest former Chief Of Defense Staff Ravindra wjeguna wardana regarding the abduction and dissaperance of 11 youth in Colombo .
The letters to recall the former Chief of Defense Staff to the CID Headquarters in Colombo Within next week are under preparation CID has stated .
This was revealed when the Case filed against the abduction of 11 youth had taken up for hearing yesterday.
recovered from the Mass Grave in Mannar during the last 90 day period are scheduled to be sent to a Laboratory in Florida,USA shortly for a Carbon test to identify the time period which the bone parts belongs to it has been reported.
Mannar Magistrate Court has given approval to send the bone parts to a Laboratory in USA for a Carbon test .
The recovered Bone parts are being stored at the Mannar court complex under the supervision of Consultant Judicial Medical Officer S.Rajapakshe .
The excavations had begun at the Mass Grave located at old SATHOSA building site in Mannar after bone parts recovered from a Soil removed from the site last March.
Muthuwella Unit of the Sri Lanka MahawelI Authority in Welikanda has been arrested by the Bribery Commission officers recently over accepting Rs.20,000 as a bribe from a person inside his office.
The suspect was arrested whilest accepting the bribe from a person in Welikanda area to give recommendation for preparing a licence to the land owned by him belongs to MahawelI Authority it has been reported.
The suspected Manager is due to be produced before the court.
