Another Act Of Sin By Train Drivers -A Wild Elephant Had Been Killed After Colliding With A Train At Welikanda

A Wild Elephant around fifteen years old had been  killed after colliding with a Batticaloa-Colombo Fort bound Intercity Train last night (09)at monaratenna area in Welikanda,Polonnaruwa according to sources.

The Elephant had fallen in to a nearby paddy field with critical injuries after colliding with the Intercity Train at an Elephant crossing it has been reported.

Train Drivers again acted blindly by not restricting the speed of the Train near an Elephant Crossing sources said.

Veterinary Medical Officers attached to the Veterinary Unit of Girithale Wild Life office have treated the critically injured Elephant after taking out from the paddy field since last night but unfortunately the Wild Elephant had released his last breath to the air this evening (10).

The Elephant has died due to the heavy internal bleeding according to reports.

The veterinary Medical. Officers attached to Girithale Wild Life Office are due to conduct the post mortem of the deceased Elephant .

A Sudden Fire Destroyed A Room Attached To The Doctors Quarters Building At Mahamodara Hospital

A Room attached to the Doctors Official
Quarters at Mahamodara Maternity Hospital in Galle has been completely destroyed with furniture due to a sudden fire erupted in the Doctors quarters Building in wee hours of this morning  (09).

The fire  erupted in the second floor of the Building and fire Brigade attached to the Galle Municipal Council had doused the fire .

No one was injured due to the incident.

Electric short circuit may have caused the fire according to officials.

Accordingly Haldummulla Divisional Secretariet in Badulla,Neluwa, Thawa lama, Baddegama Yakkalamulla ,Elpitiya,Niyagama Divisional Secretariets in Galle District and Ratnapura, Ayagama and Kalawanal Divisional Secretariets in Ratnapura a walallawita, Bulathsinghala, Mathugama  Divisional Secretariets   have been declared as Landslide risk areas .

Meanwhile several low land areas in Baddegama area have been submerged due to the heavy showers prevailing in .
