Transport Activities In Diyagala Area Of Hatton-Colombo Road Restricted To One Lane

Authoroties have restricted the transport activities in Diyagala area at Colombo-Hatton main road to a one lane due to the further  threats of Landslides in the area it has been reported.

As a result of the heavy showers prevailing in Central hills at present soil mounds in Diyagala area are being collapsed according to the sources.Due to the further landslide threats authorities are not been able to remove the collapsed soil mounds in the road and as a result restricted the transport activities to one lane.

Motorists are advised to be in vigilant when using the road.

Milk Powder Companies Have Requested Another Price Increase Of Milk Powder

Milk Powder Companies have  requested the Consumer Affairs Authority to allow them to increase the price of Milk Powder by Rs.70 Per kilo gramme due to the incresed prices of Milk Powder in the World Market as a result of the imcreased value of the US DOllar against the Sri Lankan Rupee.

The value of a Sri Lankan Rupee  against the US Dollar   is around Rs.160 at present and  as a result the Milk Powder Companies now need to spend 3450  US Dollars to import a  metric tonne of Milk Powder comparing to the previous price of US Dollars 3250 per metric tonne according to the Milk Powder Companies.

Three Chinese Nationals Were Arrested While Attempting To Smuggle A Valuable Stocks Of Sea Lions And Kothala Himbutu Cups To China

Airport Customs officers have arrested three Chinese Nationals with stocks of an expensive 265 dried Sea lions and 08 Kothala Himbutu cups in possession at the Katunayake, Bandaranaike International Airport last evening(16).


The stock of 6-11 Centi meter long Dried Sea lions concealed inside a three Tea Tins in the luggages of the suspects  along with the stock of Kothala Himbutu cups it has been revealed.They bought these from Negambo area for higher prices it has been revealed.The estimsted value of the Kothala Himbutu cups is around Rs.160,000 according to reports.

The suspects who are of the ages 35,37 and 40 years were arrested while attempting to board  a Sri Lankan Airlines flight according to Customs officers.

As taking Sea Lions and Kothala Himbutu Cups to another country is illegal under the wildlife and fauna/flora act in Sri Lanka ,Customs have confiscated the stocks and released the three Chinese Suspects after a severely warning .
