Adverse Weather Killed 20 And Affected Nearly 154,000 Persons In 20 Districts -Puttalam-Colombo Road Submerged

Due to the Adverse weather conditions
prevails in nearly 154,000 person are being affected and 20 persons have died and 2 persons have missing in 20 districts according to the Disaster Management Center.

Due to the continuous heavy showers experienced in Puttala district Puttalam-Colombo main road is currently submerged  with 3 feets of water and areas including Wennappuemwa ,Natthandia and Mahawewa are being submerged according to reports.

Puttalam -Anamaduwa-Pallama road too had been submerged due to flood waters and several.other roads ,Schools and Offices in Puttalam are being submerged it has been revealed.

Hatton -Colombo Main Road Closed Due To Heavy Rain

Hatton-Colombo main road has been
temporarily closed from watawala-Diyagala junction to Ginigathhena area due to the threats of collapsing soil mounds as a result of the heavy showers prevailing in Ginigathhena area since last night(24).

Due to this situation the Ginigathhena Police have advised the motorists to use an alternative routes especially the vehicles travelling from Hatton to Colombo and vice versa the kalugala,Gunigathhena and Nortonbridge areas.

Two Deaths Reported Due To Adverse Weather

Two deaths have been reported due to
 the Adverse Weather conditions from Alawwa and Ratnapura areas today (25).

Accordingly a 40 year old person has died after collapsing of a soil mound on his house at nawa thalduwawatta in Alawwa early this morning.The person has died before admitting to Dambadeniya Hospital.The wife and three year old daughter of the deceased who were also there at the time of the incident had escaped unharm according to reports.

Meanwhile a 50 year old person has died after toppling of a boat he was travelling in flood waters at galagamadeniya in Ratnapura.

Nearly 138,300 Persons In 20 Districts Have Been Affected And 17 Died Due To Adverse Weather

Nearly 138,300 persons lives in 20
Districts in the Island so far affected and 17 deaths and one disappearence was occurred due to the Adverse weather conditions according to the Disaster Management Center.

Out of the 17 deaths occurred as  a result of adverse weather 07 were occurred due to lightning ,06 were due to drowning in flood waters ,02 due to fallen trees and another 02 due to soil mound collapse the Center has stated.

Meanwhile 20 sluice gates of Thabbowa Wewa are being opened this morning due to the rising water level caused by heavy showers.

Police ,Residents and Disaster Management Center officials have jointly launched a search operation to find the disappeared police constable of Madampe police who was drifted away due strong flood water waves while attempting to save three flood victims.

Heavy showers still continues in many districts and many roads are being submerged in Kurunagala District due to showers.
