Adverse Weather Conditions In Many Areas Of The Island Caused Hardship To The People

A  female has died in Badalkumbura

area of Monaragala yesterday(19)due to a branch of a tree has fallen on her as a result of the heavy showers  it has been reported.

Meanwhile a soil mound had collapsed on a house in Ambalangoda area ,However three residents of the house had managed to escape unharmed.

Due to the adverse weather several roads in many provinces of the country had been submerged due to flood waters.

One sluice gate each of the Daduru Oya and Udawalawe reservoir have been opened due to the rising water levels  of them

Two sluice  gates of the Lakshapana reservoir have been opened since this evening(20) due to the rising water level of the reservoir caused by the  heavy showers experiencing in western slopes of Central hills at present.

Many other hydrocatchment areas too receive heavy showers it has been reported.

A Sri Lankan Female Was Arrested With 102 Illegal Cigarette Cartons At Katunayake Airport

A 40 year old Sri Lankan Female was

arrested by the Airport Customs today(20) while attempting to smuggle 102 cartons contains  foreign made Cigarette sticks illegally in to the country.

The female who has arrived in from Dubai was arrested while taking the Cigarette cartons out of the Airport it has been revealed.

The estimated value of  the Stock of Cigarettes taken in to custody  in possession of the suspected female is around Rs.1 Million.

Kelaniya River Has Reached Spill Level From Awissawella And Deraniyagala

Due to the heavy showers prevailing in the water level of Kelaniya River has reached spill level from Awissawella and Deraniyagala areas according to the Disaster Management Center.

People living in low land areas around the Kelani River including Biyagama, ,Kelaniya,Hanwella,Kaduwela areas are being advised to be vigilant over the situation.
