A 27 Year Old Youth Was Sentenced To Death Over A Killing Of Another Youth
A 27 year old youth was sentenced to death by the
Vavuniya High Court judge yesterday (30)after found guilty over the killing of a 25 year old youth on 17th of December 2011 at Maharambakulama ,Vavuniya.
The youth was killed during a brawl between two youth groups occurred in Maharambakulama area and Vavuniya Police have arrested three youth regarding the incident.
However the second and third suspects were later released on bail due to lack of evidence against them and the Vavuniya High Court Judge had sentenced the first suspect to death after he was found guilty over the incident.
The youth who was sentenced to death is a resident of Maharambakulama area.The court case was heard in Vavuniya High Court since 02nd of October 2017 as per the advise of Attorney General.

President Had Advised The Cabinet To Suspend The Importation Of Rice To The Country Temporarily
As the local paddy harvest is due to received to the
market shortly ,President Maithripala Sirisena had advised the Cabinet to suspend the importing of Rice temporarily to provide concession to local Paddy Farmers.
President had advised on this during the yesterday' s Cabinet meeting and as a result discussing on a proposal submitted to the Cabinet to import 100,000 metric tonnes of Rice to Sri Lanka has been postpined it has been revealed.

Families In Several Areas Of Ragala Evacuated From Houses Due To Landslide Threats
Due to the landslide risk around 20 familes living in
Ledalewatte in Ragala ,Nuwara Eliya have been evacuated from their houses and moved in to safe places according to the Police.
Accordingly 107 persons belonging to around 20 families have been evacuated from the area.
Around 41 families living in Ledeswatte, Senarathpura , Rukside and Halganoya areas have been also evacuated from their houses and moved in to Rukside Care Center and Halganoya Tamil Collage it has been revealed.
Due to the Rainy weather prevailing in landslide threats have been issued to several areas in Ragala by the authorities.

Youngest Son Of Queen Elizabeth ,Prince Edward Arrived In Sri Lanka
The youngest Son of the Queen Elizabeth the second
,Prince Edward who is the Earl of Wessex had arrived in Sri Lanka this noon (31)to attend the 70th Independance Day Celebrations in Sri Lanka scheduled to be held on 04th of February as the Chief Guest.
Prince Edward accompanied by seven member delegation including his wife Sophie Rhys Jones ,the Countess of Wessex had arrived in Katunayake, Bandaranaike International Airport around 12.30 p.m by Emirates flight from Dubai.
Prince Edward and the delegation are also due to attend some charities during their stay in Sri Lanka and they will leave the country next monday (05).
