Supreme Court Has Informed The President That He Can Hold Presidency For A Five Year Period

The Supreme Court has last evening (14)informed the
President's office that the term current President Maithripala Sirisena can hold the Presidency is five years.

Accordingly his term will be ended by the year 2020.

The Supreme Court had examined the duration of President can hold his post after President Sirisena had requested the Court to let him know whether he can hold a six year period or five year period as president.

The examination was conducted by a five member judge panel appointed by Chief Justice Priyasad Depp which was chaired by Chief Justice himself.

President Sirisena had contested the Presidential Election on 08th of January 2015 for a six year term, however due to the 19th amendment passed in Parliament in May 2015 presidential term has been reduced to five years.

Sri Lanka Ports Authority Has Received US Dollars 97.3 Million Over Hambanthota Development Project

The China Merchant Port Holdings Company which
received the Hambanthota Port on lease basis to developing it  had paid US Dollers 97.3 million to Sri Lanka Ports Authority today as the payment of second phase under the Hambanthota Port development project.

Under the  agreement on Hambanthota port development project which was signed between Sri Lanka and Has  China on 09th of December, Sri Lanka is due to receive US Dollars 1.12 billion from China.

A Person Was Arrested With A Haul Of Heroin In Dehiwala

The crimes investigations unit of the Dehiwala Police
had yesterday (13) arrested a person with 15 grammes and 370 mili grammes of Heroin in his possession near a bridge at Badowita,Dehiwala.

The 30 year old suspect is a resident of Badowita area.

Dehiwala Police are conducting an investigation over the incident.
