A 28 Year Old Ukrainian National Had Swept Away Due To Strong Sea Currents At Balapitiya

A 28 year old Ukrainian National had swept away due to the strong currents of the sea while bathing with his wife at Balapitiya Beach (Southern Province) it has been reported.

The missing Ukrainian National's wife had also swept away due to sea currents ,However residents of the area had managed to save her life.

The Navy along with the Police have launched a joint rescue mission to find the missing Ukrainian National who was on a holiday in Sri Lanka.

A 72 Year Old Person Was Killed Due To A Sand Mount Collapse

A 72 year old person was killed and his wife was injured and hospitalized  after a sand mount collapsed on their house at Palolpitiya in ,Kamburupitiya area this morning(01).

The wife of the deceased was admitted to the Matara General Hospital for treatment.

National Building Research Organization had earlier issued landslide warning to several areas in Matara District as well due to the adverse weather .

Law And Order Minister Has Ordered Acting IGP To Cancel Leave Of Police Officers

Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development
Sagala Ratnayake has ordered the acting Inspector General Of Police(IGP) D.C Wikramaratne Yesterday (30)to cancel a leave of all Police Officers in view of deploying them on special duties at adverse weather affected areas.

The Minister has also informed the acting IGP to organize special mobile Police petrol to protect the household equipment of the evacuated people in adverse weather hit areas.

Due to the adverse weather affected to Southern  and
Sabaragamuwa Provinces the water levels of Nilwala,Gin and Kalu Rivers are on the increase according to the Disaster Management Center.

The Center again has advised the people living in low land areas around the rivers to be vigilant over possible floods .
