Convener Of The Inter University Students Federation Has Been Released On Bail

The convener of the Inter University Students
Federation Lahiru Weerasekare who had remanded over forcibly entering the Health Ministry and damaged it's properties has released on bail today (09) by the Colombo High Court .

The IUSF Convener has been released on bail by the court  after considering his bail application.

A Person Was Killed Due To A Motorcycle-Bus Collision In Hikkaduwa

A person was killed and another person critically
injured and hospitalized after the motorcycle they were travelling in colliding with a bus at Kumarakande junction in Hikkaduwa last night (08).

The injured was admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for treatment.

The deceased had been identified as a 20 year old  resident of  Karandeniya area.


Fisheries Community In North Protested In Front Of Presidential Secretariet

Due to a protest campaign launched by fisheries
community in North in front of the presidential secretariet in Colombo,entry road to galle face was closed down from lotus roudabout this morning (09).

The fisheries community in Iranathivu-Kilinochchi had protested demanding release of their land taken over by the government to them.

The protesters had arrived in Presidential secretariet through a march commenced from Colombo Fort railway station.

Over 1.2 Million People Affected Due To The Drought

More than 1.2 million people in 19 districts of the
island are being  affected due to the drought as a result of the  dry weather according to the Disaster Management Center.

The Northern Province has been identified as the worst drought hit area with over 495,000 persons have been affected due to the drought the Centee has stated.

As the Animals too affected by the drought,a large number of animals living near the Thabbowa samctuary had died due to it the sources have stated.
