Adverse Weather-Around 50 Feared As Dead Due To Landslides Occurred In Ratnapura And Kalutara Districts

Around 50 persons feared as dead due to landslides occurred in Ratnapura and Kalutara districts today(26) and thousands of  people were displaced due to landslides and floods in many parts of the country according to sources.

In veyangalle ,Agalawatte area around 07 persons of the same family including 04 small children  have been reported as killed and 03 members of the same family went missing after a sand mount collapsed on their house this morning.

Two school children were killed after a sand mount collapsed on their house in velangalle,Awissawella it has been reported.

Around 07 persons were killed due to a landslide in Bogahawatte,Bulathsinghale area .

In Kahawatte area a person was killed on the spot after a tree collapsed on him  while walking in a sub road.

Ratnapura City,Galle-Baddegama road,Galle -Ambalanwatte road,Galle-Karapitiya road,Udugama-Baddegama road,Kalutara-Palawatte-Walallawita road,Tangalle-Weeraketiya road and Tangalle-Thissa road are being submerged according to the according to the Disaster Management Center.

A police officer was injured and hospitalized after a tree collapsed on the Vavuniya Police station today(26).A truck and five Motorcycles parked near the Police station were damaged due to the incident.

In Baduraliya-Mawathwatte area five houses got buried believed to be with the residents after a snd mount collapsed on the houses.Police have launched a rescue operation in search of the missing.

Several roads in Colombo too submerged due to the heavy showers prevailing in at present and as the water level in Kelaniya River is increasing Authorities have ordered the Urban Councils and Provincial Councils to remove all unauthorized constructions in Colombo and suburbs including ,wattale,Kaduwela,kolonnawa and Kelaniya which built built by blocking the natural canals and waterways as soon as possible to prevent any disaster according to the Ministry of Megapolis  and Western Development .

Two entry points to the Southern Expressway are being submerged due to the heavy showers it has been revealed.

The kokmaduwa and Welipenna entry points are being submerged and Police have requested the motorists to use another entry point  due to this situation.

Warning Issued To The Residents Living In River Banks Of Kelaniya And Kalu Rivers

Image result for galle and matara submerged due to floods\The Disaster Management Center has issued warning to the people living in river banks of Kelani and Kalu rivers to be n vigilant as the water levels of these rivers are increasing due to the heavy showers.

Meanwhile a person was injured and hospitalized due to a landslide in Bulathsinghala -Bogahawatte area(Western Province-Kalutara).Several houses in the area have damaged due to the landslide it has been reported.

A person has drowned in flood waters and disappeared in Beliatta (Southern Province) area according to reports.

 Relief  efforts are being disrupted in  many areas of the country  as the relief workers not able to reach the affected areas due to the submerged roads.

Meanwhile Air force have deployed two helicopters for the rescue operations in flood and landslide affected areas.


Due To The Overflowing Of Ging And Nilwala Rivers Many Areas In Galle And Matara Are Being Submerged

Accordingly due to the overflowing of Ging River Baddegama,Thawalama,Divithura,Weliwitya and Nagoda areas are being  sub merged and transport activities in many roads in Galle have disrupted  as a result of this situation it has been reported.

The Center has requested the people living in river banks of  Nilawala River and low land areas in Akuressa,Kokduwa and Malimbada areas should vacate their houses due to the overflowing of the river.Due to the overflowing of the Nilawala River ,Panadugama,Pitabaddara and Urawa areas are being currently  sub merged .

Some roads in Matara too sub merged due to the heavy showers it has been reported.


Thee Females Have Died After A Wall And Sand Mount Collapses In Sapugaskande And Gandara

Collapse ClipartThree females have died after a wall and a sand mount collapsed on their houses in Sapugaskande area (Western Province) and Gandara (Southern Province)as a result of the heavy showers and strong winds according to the Police.

Two females in the same house have died after a wall and a sand mount collapsed on their house in Sapugaskande Area.The two critically injured females who were inside the house at the time of the incident have pronounced as dead on admission to the Ragama Teaching Hospital.

Another female has died after a wall collapsed on her house in Gandara area ithas been reported.

The National Building Research Organization has announced that theor's a threat of landslides and sand mount collapses in many districts due to the adverse weather condition prevailing in the country.
