Around 21 Injured And Hospitalized Due To A Clashes Occurred Between University Students And Police In Town Hall

Due to the clashes occurred between University student protesters and Police this evening(17) 
in Town Hall after Police fired teargas to disperse the protesters around 21  injured and admitted to the Colombo National Hospital according to the sources.

Anti riot Police are reported  as fired teargas to the Student Protesters 15 times during today's protest and it has been recorded as the highest number of times firing teargas to a single protest march sources have stated.

Due to the firing of teargas to disperse the protest both locals and foreigners who were in Viharamahadevi park at the time faced numerous difficulties it has been revealed.Police even fired teargas to the toilets in the park in search  of the protesters.

Around 10 student protesters who participated in the protest march organized jointly by the Inter University Students Federation and Medical Faculty Students Action Committee over several issues including SAITM had been arrested by the Police over the protest.

Police Have Fired Tear Gas And Water Cannons To Disperse A Protest March Of University Students -Few Students Were Arrested

Police have fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse a group of protesting University Students who participated in a protest march organized by the Inter University Students Federation (IUSF)  over several demands including SAITM issue near Town Hall,Colombo and in Vihara Maha Devi Park.

Police have firstly fired tear gas and water canons towards the protesting students near Town Hall and as the protestors gathered in Viharamahadevi Park and protested again fired tear gas again on them it has been revealed.

Some students involved in the protest had thrown tear gas canisters fired ,towards the Police .Later Police have arrested some students including Bhikkus who acted violently during the protest.

Earlier in the day Colombo Additional Magistrate has refused to issue an interim order requested by the police to prevent the anti SAITM Protest of the University Students.

Two Persons Were Killed Due To A Wild Elephant Attack

The residents had been identified as residents of Rakwana area and their bodies were sent to the Pothupitiya Hospital.

A fisherman Was Arrested With More Than One Kilo Grammes Of Heroin In His Possession

The estimated value of the Brown Sugar taken into custody in possession of the suspect is around Rs.10 million it has been revealed.

The suspect is due to be produced before the Puttalam Magistrate Court today.
