Foreign And Trade Ministers Council Of European Union Approved Sri Lanka's Application To Receive GSP Plus

Image result for european unionThe Foreign and Trade Ministers Council  of the European Union who met in Belgian Capital Brussels today(11) had  approved the Sri Lanka's application to receive GSP (Generalized System of Preference) Plus concession according to Deputy Foreign Minister Dr.Harsha De Silva.

This is the last hurdle of the approving process of GSP Plus for Sri Lsnka it has been stated.Accordingly Sri Lankan export products including garments to the European Union countries will be received the GSP Plus tax concession within this month President Mithripala Sirisena has stated through the Twitter.

European Union has abolished the GSP Plus concession granted  for Sri Lankan export products during the previous regime due to several issues including human right issue.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Singh Modi Has Arrived In Sri Lanka


Indian Prime Minister Narendra Singh Modi has arrived in Sri Lanka this evening (11) from a special aircraft and he was welcomed  at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport by Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe.Several Cabinet Ministers too graced this occasion.


The Indian Premier who had accompanied by 65 member delegation is due to attend United Nations International  Vesak Day Festival scheduled to be held in Colombo tomorrow(12) and International Conference.

A special traffic plan has been  implemented in Colombo since this evening due to the Indian Prime Minister's visit and accordingly the lanes in the Katunayake Expressway to Colombo ,the stretch of  Baseline road from Paliyagoda to D.S Senanayake junction,the stretch of the road through Nelum Pokuna,,Library Junction,Piththala Junction and Gangaramaya -Seemamalakaya had closed from 6.15 p.m as the Indian Premier attended religious observances.

The Navam Mawatha to Galle Fave roundabout too closed from 7.15 p.m due to this.

Due to the discussions held at President's House between the visiting Indian Prime Minister Modi and Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena , Galle Face Road was closed from 8.20 p.m to 10.30p.m.

Rathnapura Police Have Arrested A Person With 09 Kilo Grammes Of Cannabis

Rathnapura Police have yesterday (10) arrested a
person while transporting 09 kilo grammes of Cannabis in a three wheeler.

The stock of Cannabis hidden inside a sound speekers of the Three Wheeler according to the police.

The suspect had been identified as a person who was remanded in 2013 over a crime in Mirihana area.




Prisons Department Has Released 597 Prisoners To Mark Vesak

The Prisons Department has released around 597
prisoners selected from the all prisons in the country yesterday (10) to mark the Vesak full moon poya day as per the instructions of the government.

The released prisoners were  served their prison sentences over small crimes it has been revealed.

Government To Increase The Number Of High Court Judges In The Country

Government has decided to increase the number of
High Court Judges by 10 from 75 to 85 in the country in view of completing a large number of incompleted legal cases mounted in courts  in the country
at present.

 Cabinet has approved a proposal submitted  by the Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapakshe in this regard.

Government has instructed  the legal draftsman to make amendments to the Judicial act to enable to increase the number of High Court judges im the country.

 Lasst March around 5580 court cases are being heard in High Courts according to the reports.
