An 18 Hour Long Water Cut To Be Imposed In Most Areas In Colombo Tomorow(04)

An 18 hour long water cut is announced for tomorrow(04) from 9 a.m in areas close to the Kelaniya Bridge and Baseline Road in Dematagoda Junction at Colombo due to a maintenance work of the Ambathale Water Purification plant according to the National Water Supplies And Drainage Board.

The water cut will also affect to the roads Thotalanga,Kosgashandiya Junction,Mahawatte and Granspass the Board has stated.

All Faculties Of Peradeniya University Closed Down Indefinitely Due To A Viral Flu

Peradeniya University Authorities have today(03) closed down all the faculties of the University indefinitely due to the spreading of a viral flu suspected as H1N1 Influenza among the University students according to the Vice Chancellor  Professor Upul Dissanayake.

According to the reports 30% of the 4000 students residing in University's hostels are suffering from the viral flu and more than 500 University Students today itself received  treatment from the University medical center for the flu.

All the university hostel students are being informed to vacate the hostels by 12 noon today in order to control the spreading of the flu.

Two faculties of the Ruhuna University too closed recently due to the spreading of the viral flu.

Around 10 Garment Workers Injured And Hospitalized Due To A Road Accident

Around 10 garment workers were injured and hospitalized this morning(03) after the Bus they were traveling in veered off the road on Kandy-Panwila-Madolkele road.

The injured were admitted to the Madolkele Hospital.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Rejected MP Wimal Weerawansha's Bail Application

Colombo Fort Magistrate Court has today(03) rejected the bail application filed by the imprisoned Joint Opposition MP and the leader of the National Freedom Front Wimal Weerawansa citing his daughter's poor health condition. 

Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne has rejected the bail application of  MP this morning on the grounds that the health condition of the MP Weerawansha's daughter not mentioned in his bail application although stated that she is receiving treatment in Lady Ridgway Children's Hospital in Colombo..

MP Weerawanshe who is currently in Colombo National Hospital was remanded until today over misusing of state owned vehicles during the previous regime.His lawyers are due to file another bail application today it has been reported.

The imprisoned MP had been arrested after recorded a statement by the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division(FCID) over misusing of state owned vehicles  on 10th of January.

A Ukrainian National Was Arrested With 18 Illegally Imported Cigarette Packs

Police have arrested a 46 year old Ukrainian National with 18 illegally imported  cigarette packs in his possession in Weligama,Mirissa area.

The suspect is due to be produced before the Matara Magistrate Court today(03).Weligama Police are conducting an investigation on the incident.
