Navy Have Arrested 17 Local Fishermen Illegally Fishing In Sri Lankan Waters

Sri Lanka Navy officers  have arrested 17 local
fishermen illegally fishing in sea coast above the Kalpitiya-Sinnapadu area without valid licences yesterday (17).

Navy officers have also taken into custody nine fishing nets and a dinghy boat in possession of the fishermen.

The arrested fishermen along with the equipment had been handed over to the Puttalam assistant director of fisheries for further investigations.


A Police Sergeant Arrested With 16 Logs Of Teak Timber In His possession

Marawila assistant superintendant of Police had
arrested a police sergeant attached to Dankotuwa Police  and a Lorry driver over the theft of   16 logs of teak timber which taken into custody and scheduled to be produced as a court product .

The Police have also taken into custody the stock of teak timber logs and the Lorry used to transport them.

The suspected police sergeant has yesterday (17) indicated the fellow police officers of the Dankotuwa Police that he is taking the timber logs to the Marawila district court to produced them and taken the stock to another placevit has been revealed.

A School Boy In Kandy Drowned In Mahaweli River While Bathing

A student attached to the Dharmaraja Collage in
Kandy had drowned and disappeared while bathing in Mahaweli River yesterday (17).

The student who is year 11 student of Dharmaraja Collage had drowned while bathing in Mahaweli River with five of his school friends during  a inter school cricket match played between Dharmaraja and Kingswood Collages in Kandy.

The dissapeared student had caught strong waves while bathing in warathanna ,seemamalakaya area of the Mahaweli River which drift him away the Katugasthota Police have stated.The friends of the student attempted to save him but failed to do so due to the srrong waves of the river it has been revealed.

Katugasthota Police with the assistance of Sri Lanka Navy  have launched a search operation to rescue the dissapeared student.

Three Persons Were Killed After A Lorry Crashed Into A Bus Stand In Moratuwa

Three persons in a Bus Stand at egoda uyana,Moratuwa were killed after colliding with a lorry which crashed
 Into the Bus Stand as a result of a collision with a Bus this afternoon (18)according to the Police .

The accident has occurred after a Bus travelling from Aluthgama to Colombo colliding with a Lorry arrived in opposite side.As a result the Lorry crashed into the nearby Bus Stand and killed three persons who were awaited for bus the Police have stated.

The bodies of the deceased had been sent to Panadura Hospital for post mortems.

The Sri Lankan Crew Members Who Were Released By Somalian Pirates Due To To Arrive In Sri Lanka Tomorrow(19)

 oil tanker who were released after captivating them by the Somalian sea pirates are due to arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow (19) according to sources .

The Sri Lankan crew members who were captivated for four days by the Somalian sea pirates had been released after the intervention of Sri Lankan government the sources stated.

The release of Sri Lankan crew members believed to be the fastest as Somalian pirates still held eight Iranian sship crew members hijacked few years ago.

After the oil tanker which the Sri Lankan crew members on board  hijacked by the pirates  early this week ,Somalian authorities attempted to fire at the pirates in the tanker to rescue the crew members.However Sri Lankan government has intervened and requested the authorities not to fire at them as it will be harmful for the crew members .

Later pirates have released the Sri Lankan crew and they were taken to Somalia afterwards .
