Around Five Acres Of Land Destroyed In A Forest Reserve In Mundalama Due To A Fire

Around five acres of land belonging to  a Anawilundawa Forest reserve in Mundalama area had been destroyed Due to a sudden fire erupted last evening (08) .

Officials of the  disaster management center  and Chilaw Municipal Council along with the residents of the area doused the fire before spreading it further it has been reported.

A Clash Occurred In Borella During The University Students Protest Against SAITM

A tense situation occurred in Ananda Rajakaruna Road in Borella(Colombo)
 last evening (08) due to a clash between two groups of  university students during the protest March held against Malabe Private Medical Collage(SAITM) organized by the  Inter University Students Federation  .

Borella Police launched an investigation on the incident .

A Stock Of Smuggled Cigarettes Worth RS.200 Million Taken Into Custody In Orugodawatte

Sri Lanka customs officers have today
(08)taken into custody a stock of smuggled Cigarettes brought to the country from Malaysia in a container yard at Orugodawatte( Colombo).

The estimated value of the stock of smuggled Cigarettes taken Into the  custody is around Rs.200 million according to the Customs .

Speaker Suspended Joint Opposition MP Dinesh Gunawardane From Attending Parliament For A One Week Period

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya had today (08) suspended the Joint Opposition MP
Dinesh Gunawardane   from attending the Parliament sessions for a one week period due to the Disorderly behaviour of the MP during todays parliamentary sessions .

Joint Opposition MP Gunawardane had interrupted the Parliamentary sessions several times without accepting speakers orders in protest of not allowing national freedom front's MP's including MP Wimal Weerawansha to sit In the Parliament independently .

As per the request made by  joint opposition MP's a vote was held regarding the  suspending of  MP Gunawardane from attending Parliament for a week period and 85 MP's voted in favor of the decision while 22 MP's voted against it .
